Rumpl makes some burly blankets for use outside as well as inside. Basically, they are utilitarian sleeping bag blankets. The Rumpl Sherpa Puffy Blanket debuts November 6 as the new winter fleece blanket in their line up. I received a sample Sherpa and took it to the mountains with my two dogs for some Colorado camping. How did it do?

Rumpl Sherpa Puffy Blanket

I usually bring up some quilt style blankets or sleeping bags for my dogs. The temperatures are usually below freezing this time of year and I want to make sure the dogs are warm and comfortable. The Sherpa seemed to be a great combination of soft fleece on one side and burly nylon on the other, making it a hybrid sleeping bag/fleece blanket. This saved me from bringing 2 blankets/sleeping bags.

After camp was set up, the dogs enjoyed sleeping on the fleece side and soaking up the sun. Once the sun went down, we took the Sherpa into the tent. The overnight temps dropped to low 20s. Both dogs fit in the Sherpa blanket. As they laid on the soft fleece side, I folded the blanket back onto them, creating a Sherpa Double Dog Burrito. (Ed. Note: ™)

Usually, the dogs get fidgety and want out of the sleeping bags at some point. Not the case with the Rumpl blanket. They enjoyed it all night without moving around. I think it is safe to say that the Rumpl Sherpa is “dog approved”.

How about us humans?

Before I put the dogs in the Sherpa, my wife and I enjoyed the fleece blanket for staying warm at home. Watching some movies and relaxing. This would make the ideal cabin blanket or apres ski blanket. Bonus – the blanket rolls up and stores nicely.

Available in 1 and 2 person sizes. MSRP $159-189
