Just before Labor Day, YETI introduced the Hopper Flip 12. The newest edition to the Hopper soft cooler collection the Hopper Flip is a personal sized cooler ready for on-the-go solo adventures.

Weighing in at 3 lbs., the compact cube design makes hauling food or beverages a snap. Its 3.2 gallon capacity can hold up to 12 beverages with ice- perfect to take along to an outdoor day festival. For someone as petite as me, the Hopper Flip is not as cumbersome as the Hopper 20 and just the right size for hauling beverages on the go.

YETI Hopper Flip 12 Review

After testing the Hopper Flip over a recent action- packed dog day summer weekend, I have to admit the smallest cooler in the YETI family is now my unequivocal favorite and go-to soft cooler.

We started the weekend by filling the cooler with a 4lb YETI ice pack, ice, and beverages for an outdoor Red Rocks concert Friday night. The next morning, we restocked it with beverages (ice from the night before was still intact) for the Colorado Freeride festival and camping trip to the backcountry. Sunday afternoon we attended Jazz in the Park on a hot, muggy evening and refilled it a third time with beverages, only adding a little bit of ice on top where some had melted.

The Hopper Flip embodies YETI’s claim that their products are “over-engineered.” First of all, the Hopper Flip’s DryHide™ thermoplastic urethane shell with RF-welded seams is built similar to white water rafts. Secondly, the HydroLok™ Zipper is constructed like zippers found in hazmat gear and functions as part of the insulating system with a waterproof seal.

Other key features of the Hopper Flip:

  • Cubed body makes it easy to haul and store.
  • The only Hopper series cooler with a wide-mouth opening for easy accessibility and visibility of contents.
  • ColdCell foam insulation is ¾” thick on the top and sides and 1” thick on the bottom provide superior insulation that keeps contents cold for days.
  • Nylon webbing straps and neoprene shoulder strap offer multiple ways to transport.

Its performance in different conditions and overall portability over the weekend make it a stand out piece. It did not take up a lot of space in a crowded vehicle, kept our beverages cool, was not overly bulky or heavy to carry, and refilling with ice was practically a non-issue. For those reasons alone, the Hopper Flip has the potential to become one of YETI’s most popular pieces.

Available in YETI’s signature Fog Gray/Tahoe Blue color, the Hopper Flip retails for $280.
