Sean commutes to work in darkness often, so he has been testing out different bike lights over the last few weeks. So far, the Nite Ize Inova STS bike light keeps coming out on top. It mounts directly to the handlebars or seatpost and looks like a headlamp – for your bike. The light itself is pretty impressive and puts out plenty of useful illumination (up to 140 lumens!!) Sean let his coworker borrow it for a night ride home and is having trouble getting it back from him, its that good!
The Nite Ize Inova STS mounts with very sturdy double-band strap system. It requires no tools. It’s easy to adjust the light and pop it out of the mount to take with you when you park your bike.
You turn the light on by swiping your finger across the top of the light. For white light you swipe right to left. Another swipe shuffles through the available modes/ Swipe left to right to turn off the white LED. Then you swipe to the right again for red light and all its modes. Pretty smart!
Nite Ize includes the 3 AAA batteries needed to run the Inova STS. The batteries last a pretty decent amount of time, depending on use:
4 hours 40 minutes on high – 142 lumens
26 hours 40 minutes on medium – 40 lumens
255 hours on low – 3 lumens
The Nite Ize Inova STS is very weather resistant – rated IPX-7 which is fully waterproof to 3 feet (should it be raining sideways, you will be fine). The main light is a nice bright white (clean) light with 5 modes – High, Medium, Low, Strobe and Lockout. There are 2 red LEDs as well with the exact same modes. So you could use this light for the rear or side as well.
Weight is a manageable 3.3 ounces and the Inova STS backed by a lifetime warranty. It retails for $35. You can pick it up directly from Nite Ize at this link.
