We don’t normally get too excited about sunglasses around here. As long as they work and don’t look goofy, we’ll wear them. When we saw Zeal’s Crafted Collection, we were interested. We like that they’re based in Boulder, Colorado. We like that they use environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing. But what really caught our attention is that the frames on the Aces are made from 100% US-grown cotton. You read that correctly. Cotton. We don’t know how they do it and they won’t tell us. But it’s pretty awesome.
The Zeal Ace has a classic style that goes with everything. No giant lenses covering half your face (if that’s what you’re into) or bright colors. Speaking of lenses, Zeal uses a technology they call E-llume in their lenses. It’s plant-based bonding agent that replaces the petroleum-based agent other companies use. Renewable and environmentally conscious again. The lenses are also polarized using film sourced from Japan.
While Zeal Optics is based in Boulder, they reached out to Italy’s renowned Mazzucchelli family to make the Ace. When the California Gold rush began, the Mazzucchellis were already in business. You can see the detail and finish culled from that much history and experience.
Zeal offers the Ace Sunglasses in six colorways and can insert prescription lenses using their Digital RX system from +3.00 TO -4.50.
