Country Archer has been making jerky since 1977 in their San Bernardino, CA smokehouse. This is not your convenience store jerky. Nope, not even close. These are not a salt bomb, nitrate doused nasty meat products that many of us are used too. Instead, Country Archer uses mostly organic ingredients, no MSG, no hormones, no nitrites or nitrates, no preservatives and 100% grass fed beef. This is our kind of meat product! Plus, all their lineup (and the lineup is HUGE) is gluten free. Let’s delve into what they have to offer.
Beef Jerky – this is the mainstay of the Country Archer family. With 6 flavors to choose from, you won’t get bored. Flavors are Original, Sriracha, Teriyaki (my favorite), Sweet Jalapeño, Crushed Red Pepper and Mango Habanero (2nd favorite). All are made from 100% grass fed beef, gluten free and mostly organic ingredients. Plus, much less sodium than other companies.
Then there is the Turkey jerky. Hickory Smoked and Honey Dijon. The Hickory Smoke is great, the Honey Dijon was hit or miss with our testers. Honestly, I think it was the first time any of us had a honey dijon jerky, so it was a nice mix.
Frontier Bars – these are basically Country Archer’s version of the more popular pemmican or meat sticks that have popped up recently. These became go-to snacks on hikes and backcountry tours. The Cayenne beef and pork were great and not too spicy, Sweet BBQ Pork was a definite delight and the Herb Citrus Turkey was a nice variety. They pack 20g of protein into each bar with only 3 grams of carbs and just 5 grams of fat (plus not salt bombs!). Making these a healthy and convenient snack.
