Treksta may not be a household name in the US yet, but they sure do make some innovative shoes. We got our feet into the Kobra 312 GTX shoe for the last month, playing in snow, ice, water, and dirt. These are probably the most high-tech shoes we have ever seen, and we think you will agree. Read on to find out why.
A little background on Treksta – they are a Korean based company that takes a different approach to making shoes. They took molds of 20,000 feet to find out the best way to design a shoe. Pretty impressive! You can see that their shoes are shaped a bit differently that other brands, the toe box is more aligned with the feet than the traditional shoe. One of the technologies involved with this shoe (and all their shoes) is the Nest Fit system. They claim that this design decreases muscle fatigue by 31% and takes 23% off foot pressure. We don’t have a way to measure that, but we can say that our feet did appreciate the fit and design of the shoe. We used them to hike in on dry days, shovel snow, and navigate icy paths during several snow storms.
The Kobras use BOA for its lacing system. Many of you are aware of BOA and have probably seen them on snowboard boots and other garments. We liked that it was super easy to use and we could really dial in how tight we wanted the shoes to fit. The Kobra GTX gets its last 3 letters thanks to using Gore Tex Surround waterproofing. To add to the winter performance, the Treksta shoe has Hypergrip HGL IceLock patches on the outsole. These are extra grippy areas on the bottom of the shoe that help you have more traction on ice. This technology proved helpful . We did have several days of using the shoes on snow and ice and could feel the traction working. It did not keep us from completely slipping, so don’t think these a magic shoe!
