By FAR the most underrated piece of gear. I have always gone pillow-less in the backcountry. It seemed like such an unnecessary luxury item to me. Well, consider me converted. This pillow has become a necessity item. $45
Sea to Summit Aeros Premium Pillow fits in a 2.8” x 3.3” stuff sack!
The incredibly soft 50D polyester material feels like heaven on your face after a long day. There are two layers of materials. The inside one is what holds the air, the outer is the soft polyester. I wish the two layers were connected to more places than just at the valve. It has only happened once, but the inside layer shifted and didn’t expand into the outer layer. It took a little fidgeting to get it back in place.
Weighing less than a deck of cards at only 2.8 oz., you aren’t going to be weighed down. The included stuff sack packs it down to 2.8 x 3.3 inches. This incredibly small item is “worth its weight”, literally.
Sea to Summit Aeros Premium Pillow deflate valve
The inflation/deflation system is pretty impressive too. There are two layers of valves. The top tab has one-way airflow so when you blow air into the pillow it stays in there. To deflate, pull the bottom tab up and it lets all the air out.
The bottom of the edge of the pillow is crescent-shaped which allows it to contour to your shoulders. Even though the pillow is small compared to the pillows on your bed, the shape of the Aeros Premium keeps it tucked under your head for the whole night.
Whether you’re on your side, your back or upright, this pillow is sure to stick with you. These pillows are compatible with the Pillow Lock System.
Growing up snowboarding and hiking in the bitter cold winters and humid summers of northern Vermont, Eliza learned how to beat up gear and quickly became infatuated with new technologies. After moving to Colorado in 2015 to pursue a degree in recreation and outdoor education at Western Colorado University, her passion for the outdoors grew exponentially. Soon after, she picked up rock climbing, telemark skiing, backpacking, canyoneering, and is slowly learning to love rafting. Through these learning processes, Eliza began to understand the importance of the right gear and hopes to share her experiences and knowledge with others through Engearment.
Now working for Beacon Guidebooks as the ‘Wearer of Many Hats’ (yes, that is her official title), Eliza has learned the ins and outs of the outdoor industry. She has also worked on marketing teams, as a photographer, media coordinator, outdoor instructor and as a wrangler. She is especially excited to encourage other women in the outdoors and is an advocate for diversity and inclusion.
