Patagonia Provisions released 3 new organic spics mixes and we just received some samples. They come with a great backstory too!  Here is the press release from Patagonia:

In 1968, Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and a few friends were waiting out the weather, camping with Patagonian gauchos during a prolonged effort to climb Fitz Roy. From an old wine bottle, the gauchos sprinkled their mutton with chimichurri, a garlicky, tangy, not-too-hot Argentine pepper sauce. The sauce’s key ingredient? Aji molido – a ground red chile with a distinctive mellow heat.

That first taste of authentic chimichurri – and aji molido – never left Yvon’s memory. It took 50 years, but eventually, with their partners in Argentina, Patagonia Provisions found the right sources to procure an organic aji molido. Grown at 8,200 feet in the Salta region of Argentina, the growers believe a combination of extreme altitude, dry air, scant irrigation, and harsh limestone make the plants fight for survival which results in a deep, rich-flavored chile.

And today, Patagonia Provisions is excited to be launching this first-ever collection of organic spices – Organic Aji Molido, Organic Chimichurri Spice Blend, and Organic Taco Seasoning Spice Blend.
 
Organic Aji Molido (Ground Chile), $5/box
Organically grown at 8,200 feet in the Salta region of Argentina, this dried red chile has a rich, complex flavor and mellow heat. Sprinkle on grilled meats, soups, veggies, egg dishes, pizza – or anything that benefits from a little kick. Aji Molido is traditionally used in Argentinian stews, empanadas, and adobos (marinades) for meats, as well as in the classic chimichurri sauce.

Organic Chimichurri Spice Blend, $5/box
A blend of Aji Molido and other organic seasonings. Can be used as a dry rub or made into a chimichurri sauce that’s delicious on grilled meats, veggies, eggs, and more.

A delicious taco seasoning with Aji Molido, salt, onions, garlic, and other spices brings intense flavor and mellow heat to meats, veggies tofu, and beans.

To accompany the spices launch, Yvon has given us permission to release his own personal, previously- secret recipe for making chimichurri sauce, which can be found here (under product details).
 
A note on the packaging for these spices: the box is made of paper from FSC-certified sustainable forestry operations, and is recyclable. The translucent inner sleeve is NatureFlex™, a non-GMO bioplastic from FSC-certified eucalyptus trees. Although the thickness of the sleeve means it can’t yet be certified compostable, the company is currently testing to find out if that’s possible.
