At $129.95, the Julbo Fury with Spectron 3 lens is a nice pair of shield eyewear at a fantastic price point.

p dir=”ltr”>Designed for speed, the Fury is among the venerable French brand’s latest performance eyewear models and is ideal for road biking. And mostly, unless you’ve been living under a rock, the semi-rimless shield look is in (think Rigoberto Urán).

From alpine riding Vail Pass complete with high altitude sun (which is sooo intense) at 10,666 elevation’, to exposed flat areas along the Front Range, I tested the Julbo Fury all summer long.
I have to say, not only did they look amazing (and I liked to pretend somewhat intimidating), but they both fit and performed well.

Bold design
First of all, let’s talk about the Fury’s striking shield design.
The wrap-shield’s wide cylindrical lens paired with sharp lines looks bold. Bad ass, even.
The Spectron 3 polycarbonate lens that I wore was most suitable to use in light conditions and offers a panoramic view of what’s ahead. Additionally, it fully protects eyes from the elements, such as preventing wind damage from drying out my eyes. In essence, it does what its style says it does- it shields.

I also appreciated the subtly incorporated full venting system (placed above the nose bridge, around the entire lens, and along the ear pieces) that provided optimal ventilation in key areas (especially right above the nose) and kept the air flow going (no fogging allowed!).
Note: In addition to the Spectron 3 polycarbonate lens, the Fury offers another lens option of Reactive Photochromic for changing light.

A good fit
Secondly, the Fury fit my face really, really well.
The shock-absorbing flexible nose grip was welcome when I rode over some rough sections of road (I’m thinking of you, Cabrini Shrine road). Also, the Air-Link Temple System on the ear pieces featured elastomer shock absorber inserts along the bottom for improved comfort along the same rough sections.
Unlike other brands with similar shield designs, the Fury fit snugly on my face and comfortably underneath my helmet.
I enjoyed wearing them the first time I wore them road biking, and every time since. These are the ones I’m choosing to use for the upcoming Enchanted Circle ride in New Mexico later this month.
Surprisingly light (but not flimsy), the Fury looks amazing and performs well, and I am here for it!
