What are gear companies doing for Earth Day?  Let’s check in with a few to find out.  (We’ll update throughout the day as we find more.)

The North Face

The North Face is promoting its Clothes the Loopprogram:

North Face Clothes the Loop Earth Day

They say, “The items you drop into our bins are sent to a recycling center where they are carefully sorted based on over 400 categories. They are then reused to extend their life or recycled into raw materials for use in products like insulation, carpet padding, stuffing for toys, and fibers for new clothing.”

Patagonia

Patagonia is in the middle of its Worn Wear tour.

“This spring our biodiesel repair truck will travel from California to New York doing free clothing repairs, teaching you how to fix your own gear and selling used Patagonia clothing. Bring us your tired, well-loved clothing for repair. If you don’t have any, we’ll supply it. Fix it and you can keep it. Join us for local food and drinks and celebrate the stories we wear.”  The truck is in Boulder, Colorado, today and Ft. Collins tomorrow.  It will head to Chicago on Sunday.

Yvon Chouinard recently told his own customer snot to buy his clothes if they don’t need them.

The lesson here?  Keep the stuff you have, as long as it works.  (If it doesn’t, let us help you find the right gear that will last for a long time.)
