Jack Wolfskin North Climate Jacket – Great Warmth for a Bargain

The Jack Wolfskin North Climate Jacket is a very warm down jacket that has kept me warm in -15F temps. It packs a lot of 700 fill down for a very fair price!

This jacket really impressed me.  From the amazing amount of warmth, it was capable of (doing just as good as jackets that cost twice as much) to the very fair price of $270 (on sale for $168 as of this review!) Jack Wolfskin is a new company for us to work with, so I did not have an expectation for them to meet.  But I am appreciative of how much they pack into this jacket.

Now, we are used to testing a lot of gear from companies that might be out of the price range a lot of people are looking at. I understand and appreciate that.  So, it is a nice treat to be able to offer a review on a company that is very reasonably priced, yet still meets the marks of “Engearment approved”.

700 Fill Down

There is plenty of 700 fill down to keep you warm in this jacket.  I am not sure of the exact weight of the down, but going off how warm it kept me, I would say it is in the 6-8oz range.  That is about double most midweight down jackets. What this does, is allows this jacket to keep you warm in serious cold.

I was lucky that the jacket came in to be reviewed during the coldest week of the year here in Denver.  Average temps barely got above freezing.  Many days the temps were -10-15F when walking the dogs in the morning.  I simply put the North Climate jacket on over a t shirt and was good to go. No kidding!

This jacket saw a lot of use in the city as well as some winter camping.  I do like the cold, so take my temp ratings with a grain of salt.  But still, this jacket is very warm. I would have no issues with recommending this jacket for most people’s needs.

Fit and Function

I am using the XL in this review and video.  For reference, I am 6’1″ 205lb 45″ chest 33″ waist 36/37 arms.  The sizing is spot on.  Not too tight, nor too baggy.  The hem is nice and the arms are a good length.

Who this is for

This is not a UL down jacket, nor does it claim to be.  This does not pack up as small as some other high-end down jackets.  But again, it does not claim to do that.  This jacket is ideal for anyone looking for a legit warm down jacket, with basic, but good, features.  Felt-lined hand pockets, check.  Durable materials, check.  Fantastic hood, check. Very fair price, check. If those are qualities you look for in a down jacket, then save some money and grab the North Climate!
