Kuhl Valiant Shirt Review – Super Lightweight Wool Shirt

The Kuhl Valiant Shirt $65 is a mix of merino wool and poly, creating a 130 weight shirt that is super light and breathable. This is great for active users who want the benefits of merino wool with the lightweight of poly.

Kuhl has three merino-based shirts in their lineup, and I am testing all three!  So, please check out the review on the Cashmerino $80 and Klimitzer $70 as well, to see which one(s) is right for you.

Kuhl Valiant Shirt Review

The Kuhl Valiant is the lightest of the three merino-based shirts from Kuhl.  It is a 130wt equivalent, making it a very lightweight and breathable shirt. The mix of 53% poly and 47% merino wool provide a great balance of softness and performance. Kuhl calls this mix “Inviziwul” Got to love their creativity!

This shirt also has some sun protection at UPF 15.  So this makes it a great shirt for hiking and outdoor adventures.  I used this primarily as a training shirt for myself and my students.  I help run an adventure-based fitness studio in Denver called Axistence Athletics, and we are always training for outdoor shenanigans!

I already wear Kuhl pants and shorts almost every day, whether training, hiking, or just hanging out.  The Valiant has been my favorite of the three merino shirts from Kuhl, as it is the lightest, fits me the best, and looks great.  Plus, it is the least expensive of the 3!

For this test, I am wearing an XL.  I picked up two of these to give them a fair go over the last month.  I washed (cold water!) and dryer (layout in the sun!) them a few times to see if there were any noticeable wear and tear.  So far there is not.

For reference, I am 6’1″ 45″ chest 33″ waist and the XL fits perfectly.  Not as long or loose as the Klimitzer and not as short as the Cashmerino.  Though, both of those shirts are great as well.  But for my purposes, the Valiant is the winner.
