Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer 2 – New HyperDry Down
The Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer 2 ($325) is an update to the extremely popular Ghost Whisperer jacket. Now featuring a water-resistant down, called HyperDry, and ridiculously light construction. Using Mountain Hardwear’s own 10D Whisper Ripstop material to save weight and is made of 100% recycled fabrics. Wow, that is a lot packed into a great jacket!
There is a reason people love the Whisperer line of down gear – they work well and look good. At least 1/3 of the outdoor people I know own a Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer something. And they rave about them! The Ghost Whisperer line has been around for a bit and has earned a good reputation for lightweight, warmth, and packability.
800 Fill RDS HyperDry Down
The new Ghost Whisperer 2 features traceable 800 fill RDS down that has been treated to repel water. This new down is called HyperDry, previous versions used Q.Shield. The HyperDry down does not use any harmful chemicals to achieve water resistance either. This is a new offering from Allied Feather and Down.
Stuff into hand pocket
Yep, you can stuff the entire puffy into the hand pocket. A nice feature for climbing and keeping things tidy in your backpack. I usually do not stuff jackets into their hand pockets as I like to have quicker access to them. With the Ghost Whisperer 2 being so water-resistant, I usually just stuff it into my backpack or bag for a quick hit of warmth on the trail or skin track.
Fit and Function
For reference, I am 6’1″ 205lb 45″ chest 33″ waist 36/37 arm length. The XL fits me very well. Sometimes, I have trouble with XL jackets being restrictive in the chest and upper back. The Ghost Whisperer 2 is a somewhat trim fit, but not too trim. So it functions well in active use, as well as in daily use going to the store and such.
Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer 2 Review
The Ghost Whisperer 2 is a great UL down puffy that features recycled materials, eco-friendly water-resistant down, and a very lightweight package. My XL comes in at a little over 10 ounces. I have a few months of using this jacket for camping, touring, and day to day use, and am really liking it. Given the reputation the original Ghost Whisperer has, I expect this jacket to see a lot of use!
Ghost Whisperer 2 Hooded Down Jacket - Men's $324.95
This is a great puffy jacket for mild temps, layering, UL backpacking, and backcountry skiing. As well as everyday use. Mountain Hardwear did a good job on the updates to an already great offering in the Ghost Whisperer 2. As a bonus, I would recommend grabbing the Ghost Whisperer pants as well. This is how I push the temperature ratings of sleeping bags and stay warm winter camping.
