Pearl Izumi Bioviz Barrier Jacket – High Visibility

The Pearl Izumi Quest Barrier convertible jacket is a fantastic piece for early fall riding; especially if you have a long ride ahead.

The relaxed-fit Quest Barrier convertible jacket was the perfect layering choice for a recent late afternoon ride in Breckenridge.
Pearl Izumi Bioviz Barrier Jacket review

I selected it for its high visibility (screaming yellow/turbulence) knowing that it would be dusk around the time the ride was finished, and also for its primary function- versatility for changing conditions.
Â
Despite starting the ride late, it was a little windy, but warm enough that sleeves were unnecessary so I wore it as a vest. I was surprised how well the vest fit- it wasn’t too tight over my jersey, or too bulky.
Â
The ventilated panel on the top portion on the back allowed for some breathability (no sweaty back), and I appreciated the deep pockets (two in front), and a one big zippered back pocket where I stashed the shrug along with my phone and keys.

On the return ride, I wore the shrug that provided just enough coverage to prevent me from getting too cold (temps dip quickly in the mountains when the sun goes down).
Â
This jacket looks better on than it does hanging on a rack! I’m not really a fan of what I call the cowboy duster/prairie look that the shrug gives, but it really wasn’t that apparent when wearing it.
Â
Another feature I liked were the snaps on the shrug. The seven snaps made it a snap (pun intended) to remove the shrug and put it back on when needed. I overwhelmingly prefer the convenience of the snaps over the more traditional zippers!
It’s easy to see why the Quest Barrier convertible jacket is a best seller for Pearl Izumi. I wish this jacket had been available when I rode the Enchanted Circle cycling event a few weeks ago. It would have been perfect for the long ride and changing weather. Also, great for visibility since a lot of the ride was along busy New Mexican highways and the jacket color is high viz.
