In a season where pile fleece is trending, Prana offers the coziest, softest fleece you’ll find.

The aptly named Polar Escape Half Zip hoody keeps you warm on the chilliest of days.

Expect the half zip hoody to look relaxed.

 

With its boxy fit, half zip, oversized hood, and front kangaroo pocket, the Polar Escape’s Half Zip retro design is reminiscent of Columbia and Starter jackets from the 1990s. As soon as I put it on, I felt like I had hot tub time machined back to high school. And I was ok with it.

 

The overall fit was good, except for the section directly underneath the armpits, which gaped a bit, but I normally wear petite sizing and it wasn’t available in petite.

While there is plenty of room underneath for a baselayer, it is unlikely you need it unless it is a very cold day and you’re wearing the fully lined half zip hoody as an outer layer outside.

 

Key features that I liked:

• The kangaroo pocket is large enough to keep both hands warm and snug.

• I especially liked the narrow wrists that didn’t allow for any cold air to seep in (just don’t expect to be able to push up your sleeves).

• The soft jersey-like lining provided extra warmth that was especially appreciated when I wore the hood up.

• The drawstring bottom to retain heat.

• The overall refined retro look. Although it felt large, it didn’t appear large while being worn.

Unlike other lifestyle pile fleece, Prana’s is constructed from 100 percent recycled polyester so you can feel good about its origins. While the pile fleece does attract some lint, I stored it inside out to keep it free from lint and pet hair.

 

Bottom line? It’s cozy. It’s super soft. It’s warm. It’s a crowd-pleaser. Whether it’s a gift for yourself or someone else, Prana’s Escape Half Zip Hoody will not disappoint this holiday season.
