Molekule Air Purifier – As Good Looking as it is Helpful

The Molekule Air Purifier $799 is a high-end air purifier that seems to work very well while looking like a piece of art.  I have seen the Molekule Air around and wanted to see what the hype was all about. Let’s take a deeper dive into this air purification system.

Molekule Air Purifier Basics

First, let’s go over the specs and design of the Molekule air purifiers, and then I will go into my review of the system.

PECO-Filter

PECO (Photo Electrochemical Oxidation) is a proprietary technology developed to destroy pollutants at a molecular level.  Most air filters capture pollutants and store them in the filter.  The PECO-Filter system not only captures the pollutants but it destroys them.  The system is definitely over my head as far as how it works, so I will not bore you with details that I can speak to. However, I will give my honest feedback in the review section.

Molekule claims that this technology will break down and destroy things like mold, VOC, allergens, viruses and bacteria.  I have no way of measuring that, so I will not make any claims on that either.  However, the research papers they provided us certainly stack up in an impressive way.

So there is the armchair overview of the system.  Let’s get into how the Molekule Air was used, and what we tough of it.

How we used the Molekule Air Purifier

This is the fun part!  I took the Molekule Air Purifier to our gym, to clients’ homes, and used it in some real-world situations that you will probably relate to as well. This unit saw some action!

Test 1 Chimney clean

Day one of testing started with a pretty brutal test.  My wife and I cleaned out our chimney (what a smoky mess!) and figured we would put the Air unit to work.  I put the unit on “Boost”, the highest setting to see how it would handle the mess.  We were both impressed with how well it cleared the air! Plus, it did not smell like chimney guts after 30 minutes or so.

Test 2 Smoking Neighbors

We like to keep the windows open as much as possible.  Our neighbors are smokers and often smoke just outside of our home.  Usually we would just shut the windows and close the patio door while they enjoy their smokes.  This time, we did not close the windows and put the unit at the screen door.  It did a good job of negating the smoke smell.

Test 3 Gym Funk

I help operate a gym here in Denver, Axistence Athletics, and we train some pretty awesome athletes here. These athletes also produce a good amount of effort (read – sweat and B.O.!) Just part of the process 🙂 I brought the Molekule into the training facility on several occasions to see if we could improve the gym funk.  Now, the gym is larger than 600 sq ft, so I was not expecting the unit to make much if any impact.

However, my students and I did feel like it did a good job of cleaning up the area we were training in.  It is hard to quantify this, but I let each one of them come to this conclusion on their own.  In fact, a few of them went out and ordered one after the session.  So…. there is some pretty good feedback right there!

Test 4 Clients Home Gym

I took the Molekule Air to my clients’ home gyms for a few weeks to see how it would do.  It actually did a superb job in the 2 car garage size gyms.  We put it on Boost then auto for the entire session.  One of my guys was so impressed that he is ordering one.  Again, I am just trying to get a feel for the unit and how it seems to work for other people.

Test 5 Barber Shop

Now, this test was not using my actual unit, instead, I surveyed the employees of my favorite barbershop.  They have 2 Moklekule Air Purifiers in their shop and have been using them for several months.  In fact, this is the first place I saw the units in person.  I asked each person what they thought of the units.  Not telling them that I was testing one, or had any experience with the unit.  I just wanted some honest, unbiased opinions on the Molekule.

Well, each person I asked, independently, had similar responses.  They each liked the units and felt that they improved the air quality.  Some had purchased some for their homes. I am seeing a pattern here. People seem to really like the Molekule Air Purifiers.

Overall review of Molekule Air Purifer

As you can gather from this write-up, the Molekule Air was a hit with all the people who used it.  Now, it is not inexpensive and there are replacement filters that need to be purchased. Keep in mind that all air filters or purifiers have filters that need to be replaced.  It is how they work and you will need to replace the filters as they do collect pollutants.

The looks of the unit are next level.  My wife actually lets me keep it in the living room.  Not much gear we review makes it to the living room!  LOL The only request she has is to turn the blue light off at night.  A fair request.  Though, the unit will not work ideally if the light is not on.  So keep that in mind.

The app is very easy to use and looks good as well.  You can switch between modes and turn the light on or off. Basic functions and very streamlined.

The unit is very well built.  It is an attractive metal tube with a sleek look to it.  The leather handle sits nicely to the side of the filter when not in use.  I like the handle as I took this air purifier all over the place during this test.

There are two smaller units that are less money than the Air unit.  They are good for smaller rooms.  There is a bigger unit as well, that covers up to 1000 sq ft.  I am going to look into that unit next as I am curious about some of the other features it has.
