BioLite just released the new Headlamp 200 today. I have been testing a unit out for the last month in the mountains of Colorado and am pretty damn excited about this new headlamp.
One of the coolest features of the Headlamp 200 is the comfort and fit. The moisture wicking headband is adjustable (kids to adults!) and feels like a sports headband. Add in the very lightweight construction (50 grams!) and you have a headlamp the you forget you are wearing.
In fact, I have fallen asleep with the headlamp on several times! The dogs and I have been doing some winter camping and this headlamp has been our go to lamp the last month. Coupled with the stuff sack that turns the headlamp into a lantern, you have a very lightweight and effective camp light set up.
200 Lumens
Yep, 200 lumens in this small headlamp! You don’t always need that much light, so it is completely dimmable. There are a few light modes – red flood, white spot, red strobe and white stobe. There is also a lock feature so you don’t burn through battery power.
Rechargeable
This is a very handy feature. Using a micro USB port, you can recharge this lamp at home or on the go. I used a solar charger to keep the headlamp juiced up. That is very helpful for backcountry use or off grid use.
Adjustable
The light is adjustable in that the lamp can tilt in different angles. Very helpful for close proximity work or dawn patrols. I really appreciate this feature and used it quite a bit.
BioLite Headlamp 200 Review
The BioLite Headlamp 200 checks off almost all the boxes for what I look for in a headlamp. As mentioned above, the features are truly awesome. The comfort and use is excellent and simple to use. The only feature I miss is some sort of weather resistance or waterproofing. I did use this in mild snow showers while winter camping, but it is not rated as waterproof. So, take that with a grain of salt.
