Outdoor Products Tag-a-long Dopp Kit Review

For years I used random old stuff sacks and ziploc bags to carry my toiletries while traveling. No longer! This handy little dopp kit has convinced me of the value of a dedicated bag with a little organization, and at 14 bucks, it’s a really affordable option (toiletry bags from high-end outdoor brands go from $30 to $45).

The Outdoor Products Tag-a-long Dopp Kit gives me one place to keep all my tiny items while traveling. It makes it easier to pack and easier to avoid losing things. For only $14, this is a winner!

This bag is quite simple, but well designed. The fabric is thick enough to hold its cylindrical shape, and the zippered lid opens in a large “U”, so it sits open when placed on a counter, which is really handy. While engaged in your personal grooming routine, or if you just need to reach for some scissors or some small item, you don’t have to rummage around in an opaque bag; it’s all there for you to see.

The organizational features in this bag are minimal, but enough to be useful. The zippered lid is backed by a mesh zippered pocket which retains small items well, like nail clippers and rings. The main body is completely open, which allows it to hold long items like a toothbrush and even a 9” x 5” notebook.

The only additional feature is three broad elastic straps on the side of the main compartment. I’ve found these hold round items like a lighter or a 1-ounce screw-top bottle, the kind I often use for sunscreen and soap.

It’s worth noting this dopp kit is fairly large — 4 liters, 9 ½” x 5” x 5”, so if you only have a toothbrush and toothpaste they will rattle around quite a lot. However, I’ve found it’s really convenient to have a larger bag to hold my essentials, because I can keep all my small personal items in one easy to find place while camping (with a baby around, this has become more important).

It also makes it easy to pack for a trip, it all goes in: headlamp, toiletries, first aid, notebook, pens, my chargers and cables. Not a bad piece of organization for $14! Comes in a low-profile grey or a stylish retro blue-and-red color scheme.
