Lake Cycling MX 242 Mountain Bike Shoe Review
Lake Cycling has been partnering with the BOA Fit System for years. They have dozens of models of cycling shoes, most of which use the BOA fit system. The BOA Fit System is the industry standard now for providing a comfortable, secure and adjustable fit.The MX 242 mountain bike shoe represents the pinnacle of that partnership for mountain bike shoes.
Design:
These mountain bike shoes are comparably lightweight, very stiff, offer excellent ventilation, and the fit is easy to adjust, even while riding. The shoes feature the top of the line technology for the discerning cyclist:
-
A double BOA Fit System with the new Li2 dial allows for customizable fit across the shoe. You can snug the heel tighter with the back dial or tighten the front of the shoe with the front dial. https://www.boafit.com/en-us/innovation/dial-platforms/li2. These dials are micro adjustable in both directions, even while on the bike.
-
A super-stiff carbon fiber sole; allows for maximum power transfer to the pedal and drive train.
-
A Carbitex Omniflex https://www.carbitex.com/omniflex carbon fiber upper panel across the arch of the foot allows for both flexibility AND power transfer all the way around the pedaling rotation, conserving every watt of power possible for transfer to the drive train.
-
The upper also consists of premium grade ECCO leather for function and durability. Lake has also incorporated Helcor abrasion resistant leather into this upper.
-
There are six adjustable panels on these shoes which are customizable with the BOA Fit System.
-
The inside of the upper has NuFoam to provide cushion, breathability and anti-microbial properties.
-
For a custom fit, the heel cup on this shoe is heat moldable for a tailored fit.
-
Sole: this shoe has a competition quality 100% carbon fiber sole with real rubber contact points to provide maximum power transfer to the pedal when on the bike, and grip on uneven surfaces while off the bike.
Performance:
-
Power transfer: The combination of the carbon fiber sole and the Carbitex upper wrapping around and over the arch of the foot ensures no energy of the rider is wasted during the pedaling cycle. The BOA Fit System Li2 dials allow you to customize the fit/snugness to optimize your fit. Since these are the new Li2 dials, it’s easy to reach down while riding and loosen or tighten the fit of your shoe.
-
Ventilation: these shoes are well vented; the side and top of the uppers have numerous vents.
-
Fit: The fit on these shoes is ultimately customizable. With the BOA fit system and the customizable heel counter, and the six independent fit zones on the sides of the shoes, they can accommodate feet that have sore areas or bunions better than many other cycling shoes. The pair I am wearing and reviewing are true to size for me.
-
Shoe options: Lake makes these shoes in two colors; “Helcor Bio Camo” and “Black/Silver”. I have the camo version and they look great! They are available in Regular and Wide widths and sizes ranging from EU 37 to 50.
