Mammut Ultimate VI SO Jacket Review – Gore-Tex Infinium Wind Proof
The Mammut Ultimate VI SO Jacket $249 is a tried and true softshell jacket that features a Gore-Tex Infinium Windstopper 3 layer membrane to block the wind while allowing it to breathe.
Mammut Ultimate VI SO Jacket Review
The Mammut Ultimate VI SO Jacket is a great windproof soft-shell jacket, available in hooded or non-hooded. I opted to review the non hooded version as I was planning on using this jacket as a daily driver jacket as well as for some hiking, biking and splitboarding.

The sizing is spot on. I am 6’1″ 45″ chest 33″ waist 36/37 arm length. The XL was a great fit for me. Not too tight, nor too boxy. I really like the way it fits, looks and performs. It is not a long cut jacket, which is actually a nice asset for how I used it. I have been testing some soft-shell jackets that seemed unnecessarily long. Not the case with the Ultimate VI SO jacket.

Gore-Tex Infinium membrane
A few years ago, Gore-Tex started separating their membranes into 2 categories – windproof and waterproof. This is from the first category as it uses the Infinium windproof membrane. I have been a fan of this offering for a while now.
I don’t always need waterproof in a jacket. Heck, we don’t get a lot of hard rain here in Colorado. If we do, I will wear a true hardshell. But those times are not as often as needing a windproof jacket. Enter the Gore-Tex Infinium offerings. I have enjoyed this membrane in jackets and gloves. It works as advertised – no wind comes though.

Uses for the Mammut Ultimate VI SO Jacket
I really enjoyed testing this jacket in various conditions. I used it almost daily as my go-to fitness training jacket. I help fun a gym here in Denver called Axistence Athletics. We almost always have the garage doors open and barley run the heat. We love the cool weather!

Being as it can be in the 20s-30s in the morning when I show up, it is nice to have a softshell jacket like this to keep the chill off. Plus, it dumps heat very well, so I can be very active in this jacket, without overheating.
Now, onto the outdoor testing! I used this jacket for splitboarding this spring in the alpine of Colorado. It can get WINDY up at 12k elevation, with no trees to block the wind. But I love spring skiing, so this jacket did a great job blocking the wind up high. The hand pockets are up higher, so they played well with my backpack on.
I used this for a lot of trail hikes with our dogs too. I found it was just right for those times when I did not want a insulated jacket, but needed some more protection than just a fleece. It is useable in a wide range of temps as the material breathes very well.
Yes That’s the review I wanted and needed. Mine is coming son. Thank you
