Mystery Ranch 2 Day Assault Pack – Military Inspired Civilian Day Pack

The new Mystery Ranch 2 Day Assault Pack $199 pulls from their renowned military packs to offer us, civilians, an incredible urban backpack. Loaded with features, and inspired by the function of the 3 Day Assault Pack, this is one tough backpack!

Mystery Ranch 2 Day Assault Pack

Mystery Ranch has been making backpacks for military use for a long time.  The 3 Day Assault has been well received over the years, but there remained a need for a slightly smaller version of this style of pack.  Enter the new 2 Day Assault Pack.

Featuring the tried and true 2-Zip design for quick access to the main compartment. MOLLE – Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment – is present on the front and sides of the pack. These nylon straps allow for attaching of various bags and accessories to the 2 Day Assault.  This is used in the military here in the US, and abroad.

Very burly materials

This pack is Mystery Ranch through and though.  They used 500D Cordura for materials.  That is a very robust and durable material the should last a long time.  It should handle day to day use and abuse.

Great suspension

One of my favorite things about Mystery Ranch packs is their incredible suspension systems. You can see all the other reviews I have done for Mystery Ranch, and it is clear, that they put a lot of resources into suspensions.  The 2 Day Assault features a great suspension system that makes your urban kit feel much lighter than it actually is.  That is a common theme with all the Mystery Ranch packs I have tested.

Urban Adventure-Ready

This pack features a dedicated laptop sleeve for up to a 15″ laptop. This is a legit, protected sleeve that keeps your laptop secured and in place.  This is not just a sleeve that holds a device.  This is a well-padded sleeve that does a great job of keeping the computer safe. This is also available from the outside via a zipper on the side.

Pocket and more pockets

There are 2 very sizable side pockets, that can easily swallow up a 32 or 40oz insulated bottle. Or camera tripod.  Or a jacket.  On the inside, there are 2 more pockets of similar size.  The lid of the pack has 2 more pockets and 2 more zippers pockets for gear on the inside.

How I tested the Mystery Ranch 2 Day Assault Pack

I was really interested in this pack after we saw it at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market.  It seemed like it would be a great pack to carry a lot of my camera and audio equipment.  And it was!  It also was put to use as a backpack for fitness certifications.  I was able to easily stuff fresh clothes, shoes, food, laptop, camera, microphones, drone, more gear, and anything else I could think of.

I used it for some podcasts and for lots of video shoots.  The backpack seemed to find it’s way on most outings! Again, I appreciate how well it carries heavier loads (camera and audio equipment can add up fast!).

Who is the 2 Day Assault for?

This kind of backpack is great for anyone looking for a sizable, durable and highly functional backpack that carries a heavy load with ease.  This would also make a good hiking backpack, camera backpack (I used it for this a lot!) and fitness backpack (I used it for this too!).
