I was curious to try them out since I love the Ferrosi joggers and had admired a co-worker’s pair of Ferrosi leggings from a previous season. While I’m typically not a leggings girl, I liked the look and feel of the Ferrosi Hybrid Leggings enough to give them a whirl.
In the mountains, shoulder season brings a mixed bag of weather conditions. It can snow one day and be dry and bluebird two days later- even in late May.
I wanted a pair of leggings that were suitable for all kinds of dramatic weather changes whose fabric was not too thin nor too heavy. Fortunately, the hybrid-mapped Ferrosi leggings proved to be ideal for shoulder season.

I appreciated that the high rise waist didn’t chafe (you’d be surprised at how many “comfort” waists are uncomfortable for me) and I loved the deep drop-in thigh pockets that could easily accommodate my wallet and cell phone without being a hindrance. The drop-in thigh pockets were so well placed that I forgot I had stuff in them! They were also deep enough to put both my hands in them for a quick warm up when I was standing around.
While the Ferrosi Hybrid Leggings boast two additional pockets (front right waistband pocket and left hip security pocket to stash small valuables), I found myself just using the highly practical drop-in thigh pockets.

Packed with Technology
Surprisingly, the Ferrosi Hybrid Leggings pack a lot of technology into a single clothing item.
First of all, you can be confident the Ferrosi Hybrid Leggings are built for the long haul with a gusseted crotch that reinforces the leggings and reduces stretch on the fabric to prevent awkward holes from wear along the crotch area.
Secondly, the current version of Ferrosi Hybrid Leggings features DuraPrint™ Overlay Print for abrasion resistance (super practical feature if you’re using them for hiking), and a wide contoured mesh-lined waistband with ½” interior elastic for improved support.
Constructed from knit Vantage fabric on the front and woven bluesign®-approved Ferrosi fabric on the back, the breathable Ferrosi Hybrid Leggings are great for shoulder season weather because the front side Vantage fabric is quick drying and provides UPF 50+ protection, while the back offers a little bit of warmth to combat chilly alpine wind.

Note that the back material on the black leggings is a dark gray color, so the tights are really two-toned. Although the Ferrosi Hybrid Leggings are ⅞ length, they were still a bit long for my petite frame, so I had to tug them up to keep them taut.
Overall, the water-resistant and wind-resistant fabrics made the leggings remarkably stretchy and comfortable to wear, despite the mercurial spring weather.
Designed with hiking in the outdoors in mind, the Outdoor Research Ferrosi Hybrid Leggings are ideal for living in Colorado’s high country during shoulder season.
