Detailed Review

As an endurance athlete, I am always on the lookout for ways to keep me fueled both during and after workouts.  Recovery shakes are especially important, as they provide immediate replenishment of protein and carbs to help get me set up for my next workout.  In the summer, I’m often out riding or running for hours, which means my recovery shake is left inside my hot car.  As a woman, it’s super important that I get a recovery drink within 30 minutes of completing medium to long workouts, so that means I’m drinking my shake in the car on the way home.  Typical plastic shakers – or even bike bottles – are uninsulated, which means I also need to pack a cooler to keep my shake safe to drink.

I was really impressed with the thoughtful features that RTIC has built into their Refuel bottle.

I love LOVE the interior liquid measurements, meaning I can use the bottle itself as a guide for my liquid volume instead of guessing or getting a measuring cup dirty. The measurements are in 4 oz increments and are easy to see and read.

Next up is the removable shaker that’s built into the cap.  It provided quick and easy mixing that left me with a lump-free drink mix.  I leave the shaker on as I’m drinking it, because it also strains the ice away from my mouth.  This means I won’t get hit in the teeth with a big slug of ice as I’m drinking.  Genius!

I also love the magnetic cap.  You unscrew the cap to drink and it naturally sticks onto the side of the shaker.  I don’t have to search for a cap that inevitably falls between the center console and my car seat!

The easy chug lid is aptly described.  It offers a generous volume as you drink, but it’s not like a tidal wave of liquid hitting your face.  It’s well sized and easy to use.

The double-wall vacuum sealed insulation and airtight lid seal kept my drink cold during a 4 hour MTB ride.  I usually pre-chill my recovery shake, but I planned poorly that day and had room temperature almond milk.  I added a handful of ice to the shaker (after my drink was mixed) and was happy to still have plenty of ice in the bottle once my ride was done.

The 16 and 24 oz bottles fit into vehicle cupholders.  I have a Toyota 4Runner; I did have to take the cupholder insert out in order to get the Refuel shaker to fit.  It wasn’t a precise fit and was a bit wobbly (mainly due to the height of the shaker).  I rarely have bottles that fit well – even bike bottles – so I was just happy to have a bottle fit into the cup holder.

Finally, the RTIC Refuel Bottle is DISHWASHER SAFE.  All of it!  The 24 oz bottle is pretty tall and I did have to place it in the lower rack.  The rest of the bottle easily came apart and went into the top rack.  A few hours later, I had a clean shaker bottle!

Closing Thoughts

The RTIC Refuel Bottle is a well designed and easy to use insulated bottle.  It is intended to be used with recovery or protein shakes, but thanks to the lid design and insulation, this bottle can easily be used anywhere and be hassle-free.

The RTIC Refuel Bottle is available in 16, 24, and 30 oz sizes and is available in several colorways.
