Merrell Men’s Agility Synthesis Flex – An Everyday Trail Runner

Looking for that everyday trail running shoe that’ll get you through most kinds of terrain?

The Merrell Agility Synthesis Flex comes through with comfort, traction, and functionality. I decided Moab would be the ideal place to start putting the Agility Synthesis Flex through its paces. Navigating rocks, sand, and the occasional cactus, my feet felt stable and locked into their steps.

You may not realize it at first, but Merrell incorporated a skeleton theme into its tread lugs on The M Select GRIP sole. I found myself feeling a bit more secure on the slick rock as I tested steeper angles, particularly on the descent. The toe cap has held up well to a lot of abuse for those scrambling scenarios.

FLEXConnect™

Given the lower-than-average amount of volume I have,  I’d pull in the laces as much to close the roof, and they felt snug the whole time instead of stretching back into default mode. The FLEXConnect™ system made sure my heels weren’t moving around laterally. The woven jacquard upper breathes well and deflects nicely and the top of my feet appreciates the neoprene tongue Merrell designed.

As the days dragged on, my feet appreciated the cushion and weight of the Agility Synthesis Flex and the downhill descents didn’t feel so punishing when I was able to control my movements more smoothly instead of slipping and sliding. I would see myself buying another pair once they reach the end of their shelf life.  Whether you hike a few miles a day or rack at least 50 miles a day, this shoe is worth a look. Grab a pair here for $110.
