Kuhl AirKuhl Hoody Review – UPF50 Hoody Great for hot Weather Activities
The Kuhl AirKuhl Hoody ($75) is a well-fitting, good-looking long sleeve shirt that is great for hot-weather activities. Fishing, hiking, SUP, rafting, and anything in the sun and heat! Kuhl has a lot of great shirts for summer but this is the first long sleeve shirt I have tested with them.
Kuhl AirKuhl Hoody Review
The Kuhl AirKuhl Hoody is a lightweight, breathable hoody designed for use in sunny and hot conditions. I used it for hiking, biking, and splitboarding here in Colorado. I plan on using it for rafting, kayaking, SUP, and fishing here in the next few weeks.
The material of the AirKuhl is made to wick moisture away from your skin and allow for wind to pass through and cool you off. The 147 weight is very lightweight and ideal for summertime use. Made of 85% ultra-soft poly (yes, that does exist LOL) and 15% spandex, this shirt will move with you, and not hinder activities.
I used it on several late spring splitboard missions in the alpine. I figured this would be a great test for a few reasons 1) sun protection in a very bright environment (11-12k elevation) and 2) breathability. The UPF 50 sun protection came in handy as I was in direct sun for several hours each day on the tours.
The shirt breathes very well too. The shirt material and pattern allow for air to pass through it with ease. This is welcome on hot days, but something to consider on cooler days. On top of the mountain, getting ready to transition to snowboard mode and put a windshell over the AirKuhl is where I noticed the most. Something to consider for mixed weather adventures (and always carry a light wind shell!).
Fit and Function
I am 6’1″ 205lb 45″ chest 33″ waist and 36/37 arm length. The XL was a great fit. I appreciated the extra-long length of the shirt. You could tuck it in if you wanted, or just leave it out and know that the sort is not going to expose your torso when doing overhead motions (like casting a fishing pole). The arm length was excellent and there are monkey holes for your thumbs.
Available in several colors
Bottom line – this is a fantastic summer shirt for sun protection during hot days on the water or in the mountains. The fit and function are spot on and the looks are smooth. We have a lot of reviews up for Kuhl, as we are very big fans of them here at Engearment. You can see more Kuhl reviews here.
