Review
As a solidly GenX woman, I’ve pretty much been wearing lower waisted skinny things on the lower half of my body for most of my life. I have resisted the current trend of high waists and loose legs.
The Finisterre Women’s Yarrel Canvas Pant are helping with a pant-related paradigm shift and after wearing these pants for a few weeks, I’m fully on board.
Canvas makes me think of my grandfather’s WWII navy hammock. It was NOT something you’d want to wear – it was thick, stiff, and scratchy. I’ve also always considered canvas to be something you’d want in a jacket or a tarp.
The canvas of the Finisterre Women’s Yarrel Canvas Pant is LOVELY. The organic cotton has a thicker weave, so you can see the texture of the thread. There’s a slight stretch. And it is incredibly soft and pliable.
The weave of the fabric is on the heavier side (it is canvas, afterall), but it moves and drapes beautifully. The pants are comfortable for walking or when sitting at a desk, giving full range of movement and comfort.

Sizing is something that requires talking about. Finesterre is a UK brand, and being that I live in the US, I’ve sometimes found that UK or European brands do not fit the same as US brands do. Figuring out the size guide can also be a challenge, and I often find that the sizes I order are not the sizes I need.
Thankfully, Finesterre’s sizing is true to size! Hurrah! The size guide is very detailed, with US and UK sizing along with measurements in both inches and centimeters.
I got a size 32W in the Finisterre Women’s Yarrel Canvas Pant and I found them to be fairly true to size, keeping into account that they are relaxed fit with a very high waistline. I find that they fit best when I wear them with a belt, to maintain the high waist on my body. But when belted, there’s no awkward bunching of fabric around the waistline or crotch area. If you want a slightly less relaxed fit, you might be safe sizing down a size.

I am 5’4″ and have a 31″ inseam. This means that I have a short torso. For me, I’ve found that the Finisterre Women’s Yarrel Canvas Pant come up to my ribcage and generally settle down an inch or two when wearing them. The cut and detailing of the pants is great, no awkward pooching out along the front zipper and the cut, while baggy, still looks elevated and stylish.
The Finisterre Women’s Yarrel Canvas Pant wash and wear nicely. We’ve been washing and hand-drying (as directed by the care guide). They do hold a slight wrinkle, so when they’re dry, I do run them in a 20 minute “wrinkle” setting on my dryer. This makes them perfectly wrinkle-free and ready to wear.
They also pack nicely. I often pack my gym bag the night before I swim and then change for work at the gym once my swim is done. I’ve rolled up the pants and placed them into my gym bag an they’re wrinkle-free when I put them on.
The Finisterre Women’s Yarrel Canvas Pant can easily adopt a casual style or a more dressed up look. They pair nicely with cropped camp shirts that are also in style. I personally love them with a wool tank sweater and a thick belt. I love that I can be comfortable AND stylish at the same time.

Closing Thoughts
The Finisterre Women’s Yarrel Canvas Pant are a great pair of pants that are comfortable, stylish, and can be worn year round. They are light enough for summer wearing (indoors or evenings) and would be wonderful in the winter with a pair of leggings underneath for added warmth.
The Finisterre Women’s Yarrel Canvas Pant is available in 6 different colorways and in sizing ranging from 24 to 36 inches.
