Kuiu LS Gila Hoodie Review

Spending numerous days of the year under the Colorado sun at various altitudes, protecting my skin is a must. This usually involves various combinations of shirts, hats, buffs, and lots of sunscreen.

I was first introduced to UPF clothing while fishing in the gulf or long stints out on larger lakes. One thing that always bothered me was how bulky they were, the giant logos on them, and at the time no hood. Those shirts have come a long way over the years but when I heard KUIU was developing the Gila hoodie I knew I had to get my hands on one.

Like all items they design and put on the market, the team over at KUIU put a lot of thought into this piece. From the 92/8 blend of polyester/spandex that has a UPF rating of 50+, this lightweight, dry wicking, anti-odor treatment, this hoodie has become my go to garment in the backwoods from late spring to early fall.

Out of all the cool things about this hoodie the streamline fit with still allows a good amount of air flow to the hat compatible hood, my personal favorite aspect of the Gila hoodie is that I don’t feel like I’m a walking billboard.

With the small KUIU logo high on the front left breast and back right shoulder its classy and lets the article speak for itself. I have tested the Gila hoodie in various environments, from mowing my lawn in 90+ degree heat, training/scouting hikes in the 50’s at various altitudes between 10-14k feet, to 100+ degrees on a lake with a fishing rod.

All I can say about the Gila LS Hoodie is that Kuiu knocked this one out of the park.
