KUIU Pursuit Tech Pant – Great for Cold Weather Activities

KUIU Pursuit Tech Pant – Great for Cold Weather Activities
Luke Cunningham
I’ve been a fan of KUIU and joggers for years now. When I was asked if I wanted to test out the new KUIU Pursuit Tech Pant the answer was obvious. Before I get into the overall performance of the pant I want to quickly touch on the specs. The pant is made of hard face, 2-way stretch fleece-245 GSM with a polyester/spandex blend, weighing in just over 13 OZ. Features include:
- Elastic Waistband with Drawcord
- Open Hand pockets with a media pouch inside the right pocket. (my I phone 11 fit easily)
- 7in. YKK Ankle Zipper
- Articulated Knees
- Crotch Gusset
- Soft-brushed Interior
- Reflective logo under the left pocket and along the right ankle zipper
- Colors include heather charcoal and black
I’ve been wearing this Pant for about a month now in different scenarios from cardio, to squats, playing with my dogs, and lounging around the house. The tech pants held up in all environments to include not attracting all my dog’s hair like other joggers tend to do. I have tried numerous amounts of pants over the years.

One thing that most have in common is the waist riding down when I would squat. The KUIU Pursuit, with the articulated knees, is held in place through all applications. I’m not a huge fan of keeping my phone in a pocket when I work out, but the media pouch fits most devices I tried.
At 5’10 190 lbs, the medium fit perfectly in length and legroom, while still being a form-fitting athletic cut. One thing that I was worried about from the beginning would be the warmth of the fleece. I run hot, so the 2 way stretch-245 GSM provided a little more warmth than I liked during cardio but for everything else, it performed flawlessly in the Colorado winter.

After a month of testing these pants, I can say it’s one of the more comfortable joggers I have ever worn, I was extremely glad to see a 7-inch zipper at the ankle but it does fall short of the intent in my opinion. The great thing about ankle or ¼ zip pants is the ability to remove the pant without taking your shoes off. This is where the athletic cut of the pant and stretchiness doesn’t do the rest of the design justice.
I found it too difficult to try and fight my shoe through the small opening mid-calf that I ended up removing my shoes. I would often leave the zipper open to take the pant on and off even without shoes. The YKK sipper also tended to flip down during activity and poke into the ankle. This could easily be fixed with a piece of fabric to work as zipper retention. While I’m on the topic of zippers, a future version with zippered pockets to help retain any items you may be carrying would be much appreciated.

Final thoughts?
This pant will be one of my go-to pants for day-to-day use in late fall to early spring. Whether it’s lounging around elk camp, training for the next adventure, or hanging out with my family. The KUIU Pursuit Tech Pant continues to impress.
