If you love recreating outdoors during the winter and you get cold easily, these insulated pants are for you.

Although they are intended for backcountry pursuits such as winter camping, I found myself wearing these nearly every day to keep warm, especially during long, snowy walks with the dog when the temperature hovered around 10 degrees.

Super comfortable, these pants provide unparalleled warmth, especially paired with some thermal tights on mornings when the wind is cold, and the snow is falling hard.

People dress differently in the mountains; we dress for comfort and functionality.

Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer pants review

On a recent walk with the dog, I noticed several people were wearing similar insulated pants. Later, I spotted several people sporting insulated pants at the local coffee shop and the grocery store. Clearly, these are the neighborhood equivalent of wearing winter-weight joggers.

These pants are pure function.

While your legs won’t resemble the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, the Ghost Whisperer pants don’t slim your legs or accentuate your butt. They just keep you toasty warm, exactly what they are meant to do.

Also, the two hand pockets are surprisingly deep and completely cover my hands with a bit of room left over. Functional!

Other key features:

  • Internal drawstring for adjustability

  • Snap front closure with zippered fly

  • Ankle zips with snap closure

As someone petite, I appreciate that the Ghost Whisperer pant is offered in three inseam sizes (short, regular, and long).

Often in the past, I’ve been interested in pants that aren’t available in a short size, so I am extremely appreciative of Mountain Hardwear’s consideration of all body types.

Also of note: the Ghost Whisperer pants purportedly run small, so I wore the next size up (a medium). However, once they arrived, I think I could have easily worn a size small.

Surprisingly, the size medium wasn’t overly spacious and didn’t fall on my waist. More importantly, I was able to wear fleece leggings underneath as a baselayer without having constriction of movement or overheating.

Winter weekend warrior

You’ll want to take the Ghost Whisperer pants on every winter adventure: hut trips, winter camping, etc.

Like the rest of the Ghost Whisperer series, the pants are incredibly lightweight, literally 10 ounces. They come with their own stuff sack, so they take up no space in your pack for overnight winter adventures.

Additionally, if you wear shell ski pants, these provide good insulation while you ski and comfortable warmth for apres ski, even indoors.

I love these so much that I want to get a second pair! Available in two colors (Black, Glacial), the Ghost Whisperer pant is your all-around winter pant that is appropriate for both everyday wear and cold weather recreation.
