Mountain Hardwear HiCamp Fleece Pullover – Retro Inspired Warmth

With its kangaroo front pocket and its bulky half-zip pullover design, the HiCamp Fleece Pullover takes me back to 1993 (no hot tub time machine required).

As soon as I put it on, I felt like I was wearing a mini furnace. This pullover doesn’t keep me toasty warm, it keeps me toasty hot.
The super cozy HiCamp Fleece Pullover is the piece you wear when you’re doing fall or winter camping, or enjoying a hot spiked drink on a patio in some mountain town. Basically, the perfect piece to wear if you’re outside and doing a lot more standing or sitting than moving around.

Several years ago, before retro-inspired designs (i.e. color blocking and sherpa fleece) began to reappear among outdoor recreational clothing, I had an acquaintance who wore her dad’s vintage sherpa fleece pullover that was very much like the HiCamp Fleece pullover.
She had plenty of money to buy whatever gear she required, but every camping trip she inevitably brought her dad’s old sherpa fleece pullover because she swore by its warmth and its comfiness.

With the HiCamp Fleece Pullover, I now have a similar top of my very own and finally understand why that was her go-to piece of clothing for cold weather camping so many years ago!
Mountain living necessity
Despite living in a mountain town, I get cold more easily than most.
And, inexplicably, mountain people love to congregate on patios- even in colder temperatures. That’s a lot of standing around (unless I’m practically sitting on top of the fire pit, patio fire pits don’t do anything for me in terms of warmth) being uncomfortably cold.
Therefore, I am thrilled to have the HiCamp Fleece Pullover to wear on cold days while walking the dog, enjoying a hot spiked drink on the patio, or just standing in line milling around outside with the rest of the mountain folk.

Too warm to be worn indoors, the HiCamp Fleece Pullover is designed with the outdoors (especially mountains) in mind. If there’s no precipitation, it can be a standalone outer layer (with just a t-shirt underneath).
While its generous cut can accommodate another layer, I can’t imagine wearing a flannel shirt or winter weight base layer underneath; I’d probably overheat.
Also, while I’d prefer to have two separate hand pockets, I think the zippered kangaroo pocket does contribute to the overall vintage vibe. Note that the pocket is spacious enough to stash a pair of gloves, sunglasses, cell phone, or valuables.
Key features:

Available in four colors (Black, Wild Oyster, Dark Marsh, and Zodiac Landscape Print), I adore the Mountain Hardwear HiCamp Fleece Pullover and recommend it especially for people who get cold easily and don’t like to wear multiple layers.
