Truewerk – Celebrating Tradework & Play in Style That Will Last for Days
Do you ever wish you could just find that one go-to sunshirt that can protect you from the sun without making you feel restricted on those blazing hot days on the water or in the woods? Well, I may have the answer for you – it’s called the Truewerk B1 Performance Hoodie sunshirt!
This month I’ve been lucky enough to learn more about a local Colorado company – Truewerk – testing out their B1 Performance Hoodie sun shirt. As a 5’3” (on a good day), 138lb female, small was the right size for this product.

The B1 Women’s Performance Hoodie in Light Heathered Gray ($49) has a “scuba hood” for front neck protection and raglan sleeves for added mobility, proving to be the ultimate base layer. The hood molds to your head, making it a comfortable fit under a helmet, with built-in UV protection to keep your skin safe from getting scorched by the sun. It will be my go-to sunshirt for paddleboard days spent on the water, especially as living in the Mile-High City, my skin could use all of the extra protection it can get from our strong UV rays.
We’ll dive a bit deeper into what I liked the most about the B1 Performance Hoodie, but before that, I wanted to share a bit more about Truewerk and the mission behind their brand.

Truewerk B1 Performance Hoodie -Women’s Fit Review – Devan Michael
Truewerk was founded in 2015, as a high performance industrial workwear company that strives to bring their mission of “Believing in a life well built” to each piece of their clothing. Inspired by elite military and professional mountain guides, Truewerk gear is engineered for work. Whether it be for the individual that helps bring power to the masses, or keep our daily conveniences of running water & electricity to life, or simply those that choose to live a rugged life of adventure, Truewerk has you in mind. They created the world’s first integrated workwear system, where each piece is designed to work together and adapt to the elements and the jobs its wearer takes on.
Although I do not personally work in the field, I immediately resonated with building high-quality products that thrive in adversity. It also speaks to Truewerk’s style that their clothing can be worn on the jobsite, in the mountains or out on the town.
What stood out to me the most about Truewerk’s mission is they are fiercely advocating and empowering our tradesmen and women, striving to recognizing and reducing the stigma around tradework, listening and amplifying the voices of this community and are actively working to change the system that too often presents trade work as a step back, rather than a step up. This passion to showcase the strength of such an incredibly hardworking, resilient and dedicated community makes me proud to rock the Truewerk brand (while also sharing it with every person I could think of that may benefit from this amazing gear as they brave the elements each day at work – shout out to you Dad!)
Truewerk has a great mission, uses high-quality materials to hold up to the rugged conditions of its wearers, and is the perfect blend of style and durability. With that, here are a few things that stuck out the most to me when testing out my B1 Performance Hoodie.

B1 Performance Hoodie – Women’s Fit
- Do It All Layer – I was really impressed with the fit of this hoodie. Running true to size, with a bit of extra wiggle room, this lightweight base layer is the perfect layer under rain jackets, windbreakers and even the M3 Woobie Hoodie (check out that review here). As someone who doesn’t like to be restricted in my layers, I really appreciate how this design moves with you in every direction.
- UPF+50 Sun Protection – Living in the Mile High city, I have been forced to be much more conscious of how I protect my skin from the harsh UV rays. This hoodie will allow me to spend afternoons out on the water on the paddleboard, with my mind at ease that my skin will be taken care of!
- Flattering Fit, Fun Colors – Although Truewerk is built to stand-up to the ruggedness of tradesmen and tradeswomen, I was truly impressed in how they do an awesome job blending functionality, high-quality AND style. This is a hoodie I can see myself wearing out on the water, up in the mountains, and at the brewery post-hike. (Also doesn’t hurt that it comes in some great go-with-everything colors!)
In short, the B1 Hoodie has my approval and will be my staple any-AOTD-on-the-water shirt moving forward!

Growing up in Massachusetts, Devan has been an athlete all her life. Starting at the age of 4 as a competitive gymnast, she learned quickly the joy that comes from hard work, determination, and a jammed packed schedule. Eventually, gymnastics led to competitive lacrosse, which resulted in her growing some wings and going to the PNW to pursue a DI College Lacrosse opportunity at the University of Oregon.

On the single off-day each week, she quickly learned to see Mother Earth as her playground and wanted to use every second of free time to find chase AOTDs (Adventures of the Days). These AOTDs were the inspiration for her blog Dabbling in Traveling & youtube channel.

From waterfalls, to snow covered mountains, to sand dune hikes – one thing was certain, something always went awry on these AOTDs. But hey, memories were always made! Not only was UO an incredible college experience, Oregon sparked her love for the outdoors & traveling across the country for games helped introduce her to Colorado in 2014. Staring up at the Flatirons on CU Boulder’s campus, she knew one day she would call Colorado home!

After returning to the east coast upon graduation, Devan’s heart never stopped longing to live in Colorado one day. But luckily the pandemic brought a newfound acceptance for remote work and in Nov. 2021 her dream came true!

By day, Devan is a Product Manager at Capital One. By afternoon, she is a personal trainer, coaching group Crossfit classes at Axistence Athletics (the best Adventure gym you will ever find!). By evening, she pours her heart into nonprofit work, specifically focused on driving sustainable change in Haiti through the Brace for Impact 46 organization (Fun fact – she has been traveling to Haiti since 2015, accumulating 7 trips and 7 months of living down there!).

Brace for Impact works in Northern Haiti to provide sustainable, multifaceted approaches to support child development, education, medical care, job development, and implementation of clean water & sanitation across the community, which touches 40,000 people each day! As her friends would tell you (despite trying) Devan does not slow down and is always trying to fit AOTDs into each open moment. Whether it be hiking, paddleboarding, road-biking, running, Crossfitting, weight-lifting, snowboarding or simply exploring different parts of CO with her favorite furry friend Bailey, it’s safe to say Devan has found her “Home” here in Colorado!

Fun fact – Devan had reconstructive hip surgery in 2016 (actually called a Periacetabular Osteotomy… but that’s a tongue twister), where doctors said she may never run or walk again. After a 22 month recovery period, she proved doctors wrong and uses that motivation to encourage everyone she interacts with to truly treat movement as a gift and to never take it for granted. With that being said, to keep her body active, she needs to make sure her gear can support her so she can remain #PAOStrong!
Devan is excited to join the Engearment team!
