Salomon Speedcross 5

First impressions these shoes are stiff! Broke in nicely after around 12 miles. I have logged miles in Nevada Utah and Colorado in these shoes and these are my thoughts.

Will on the run

Pros: Super aggressive, long-lasting, comfortable on long runs, superior traction, and braking.

Cons: Stiff on the break-in, can be too aggressive, feel bulky on hard pack.

Salomon has yet again improved a classic trail runner! These shoes rock! Once broken in I wore these on slick, snow and mud covered trails and was surprised with the confidence they gave me. I never questioned my footing.

As the seasons have been changing I’ve been able to run on everything from slick rock to scree. I prefer these shoes on loose and sloppy trails. For general hard pack and slick rock trails, I would go for a less aggressive shoe like the sense ride pro.

The Speedcross 5 has seen some improvements in design over the 4 and yet minor they have made a huge difference. Much more comfortable over longer runs due to the redesigned upper and the bigger lugs provide more traction in the slop!

So far I’ve put around 140 miles on these with no premature signs of wear. I expect them to last quite a while! I absolutely love these for mountain running.

Will Coleman

Hi, I’m Will, I’m currently living the van life in Colorado. I enjoy mountaineering, splitboarding, climbing, trail running and type 2 fun! I’m 28 years old and spend as much time outside as possible. I moved to Colorado in 2014 from Mississippi and grew up in the mid-south. I have been snowboarding since 2000 and the mountains have had my heart ever since. You can find me anywhere from riding Colorado’s high peaks to climbing desert towers, to climbing in the PNW!
