North Face Progressor DV Jacket

The North Face Progressor DV Jacket – Packable Weather Protection that Stretches

The new Progressor DV jacket is a perfect hiking shell to keep with you on the trail.  The lightweight jacket features a stretchy body, capable design, and functions well – all for under 10oz.

Progressor DV – DryVent 2.5 layer protection

Normally I am not a fan of 2.5 layer waterproof breathable membranes. I feel that they are tacky and crinkly.  I was surprised at The North Face Progressor DV though.  It did not have those unpleasant characteristics of other 2.5 layer shells.  The North Face incorporates Flashdry technology on the jacket.  This aids in breathability and also makes the interior feel better.

Stretchy and quite construction

Who does not love stretch?  Seriously. This jacket stretches and moves with you.  Personally, I like that feature a lot.  With the stretch also comes quite.  It is nice being able to listen to nature as you hike, and not hear your jacket making that typical crunchy sound.  The jacket stretches in all directions without being too stretchy.

Functional Design

The Progressor line up is designed for hiking and backpacking in mind.  The DV jacket fits into this line up very well.  Whether used over a t-shirt or over a mid layer, the Progressor worked well.  I paired the jacket with the Progressor Power Grid Hoodie on several occasions (read our review on that piece here)  and found it to be a great combo.  The jacket features two large, zippered hand pockets.  These also act as the main ventilation using the stretchy mesh backing.  The hood is a great fit over a hat or beanie (not a helmet though) and has a semi-stiff brim.  The hood is adjustable via a pull cord on the back.  I found the hood worked very well at keeping water out.  The hem is adjustable as well, using the cinch cord.  The cuffs are elastic and very comfortable.

Overall impression

I think the Progressor DV is a good, lightweight rain jacket for hiking and spring through summer use.  I was impressed at how comfortable it was for being a 2.5 layers WPB jacket.  Weighing in at just over 10 oz for the XL size was a bonus.  I found myself packing the jacket for many trips – from hiking, biking and camping to everyday use.  Price is right at MSRP $199.  Available in Mens and Womens.
