AXWELL Rigid Wallet – The Last Wallet You Will Ever Buy?

AXWELL Rigid Wallet – The Last Wallet You Will Ever Buy?
Ryan Humphries
I am the new owner of an army green, AXWELL Rigid Wallet…not to be confused with the slim design Ridge Wallet (More on the difference later)
I hadn’t heard about AXWELL until I received this one, so for the review, I had to do some digging. I was actually planning on getting a Ridge Wallet (a very similar slim design), but only because that seemed to be the big name in the game (if that game is slim design tactical wallets). I also know a few folks who have Ridge wallets and seem to like them.
My previous “Money Clip” (if that’s what you want to call it) was a disaster (pics below). In fact, I pulled it out on a first date, and the response was, “What’s that situation?!” It wasn’t quite a Constanza, but I knew I needed help in the arena of carrying currency. I was looking for something durable yet stylish, something sleek but with a touch of badassery, and preferably in my favorite color (Army Green).
Enter the AXWELL…
Now if you’ve been in the market for what I’m going to call “Tactical Money Clips,” you know that you’re going to drop a little dough on something that’s going to hold your own. Personally, I’m a “you get what you pay for kind of guy,” and I don’t mind spending money on something that’s going to last (especially something with a Lifetime Guarantee).

The AXWELL comes in at $72. Pricey for something that carries your cash? Maybe. I mean, I was coming from a janky-ass money clip that technically worked. Also, my cards would fall out all the time; it couldn’t even carry most of them. I was publicly shamed on a date as well… So, although I was sticker shocked at first when I started looking around at men’s money clips…I also realized that I might just be cheap. Then I got curious. I wondered, what’s the average price of a woman’s purse? Here’s a Fun fact: women spend (on average) as much as $160 on a handbag and also own about 11 of them.
A dude typically has one way he carries his money. One. And although I’m not trying to show off my financial accessories, it’s nice to bust this thing out and have more curiosity as to what it is, where I got it, and what it’s called, rather than comments like “what’s that situation?!”

Let’s talk practicality. It’ll hold your money. Although the website says it’ll hold 1-12 cards easily, I tried 15 since that’s what I somehow had in my last money clip. Although 15 cards were totally secure, I’d recommend probably not doing more than 12. I even threw it down on the ground a few times with 15 cards in it and never had an issue. My “daily carry” is about eight cards, and that feels super manageable. Most of the wallets in this arena (including this one) boast RFID (anti-theft tech), and although I’ve never been scared of someone stealing my info, I do like knowing it’s a little more protected.

The AXWELL has both an elastic strap as well as a money clip. I’ve held my cash in both, and I don’t know if I have a preference. They both seem to keep it pretty secure:

I really try not to let color bias me too much, but I have to say the olive green aluminum version is pretty damn cool. However, if olive green isn’t your jam, the company not only has seven other colors, but it also boasts something called Mag-Lock (™) technology for replacing or changing out the cover plates (the front and back).

This is a cool feature where you could swap out the green for orange, black, navy blue, or something else. Again, not a feature I’d personally use, but I can see the appeal to those who might be more fashion-savvy. As a matter of fact, if that’s you, check out the Ridge 24K gold wallet coming in at a cool $250.
Because this wallet is so close to the wallet I was originally looking at, I thought I’d make a quick side-by-side comparison of things I noticed:

Review summary: Immediately upon opening the box, I thought to myself, ‘this is exactly what I’ve been missing in my tactical fanny pack’—pocketknife, flashlight, keys, sunglasses, bandanna, floss, and now the AXWELL. The company calls it “The last wallet you’ll ever buy,” and I can say that unless I lose it, that might be the truth.
