Detailed Review
I teach yoga in the summers for a local recreation district, and I have to provide my own sound system. That sound system was usually whatever Bluetooth speaker I got for free somewhere…. and it honestly wasn’t the best for large park situations. I also coach swim practices for a local triathlon club, spend long hours in my basement riding Zwift, and van camp.
Basically, the DemerBox DB2 Speaker checked all of my boxes and then some.
The DemerBox DB2 Speaker isn’t as small as my other Bluetooth speakers, but size is not the whole point behind the speaker. The DemerBox DB2 Speaker plays music – loudly – but it also functions as a small, waterproof container and battery bank.
Testing Scenarios:
- On deck during a swim practice
- Surprise rain storm after a group run
- Basement trainer rides
As the DemerBox DB2 Speaker is completely waterproof, I plunked the speaker on the deck and didn’t worry about it getting wet. When fully latched up (i.e. sealed), the speaker sits upright nicely without wanting to tip over. The volume was plenty loud for swimmers to enjoy music between sets, and was able to be heard over general pool noise. The speaker also passed the dunk test once practice was over. It was pretty freaky to toss my new speaker in the pool, but it floated and did just fine. Do note that users won’t actually be able to hear the speaker as they’re underwater because sound waves don’t transmit the same under water. Not a fault of DemerBox, it’s just how physics works.
I was really impressed with how easy it was to use the DemerBox DB2 Speaker. I participated in a social run recently, where a brand was hosting us and provided coffee and treats once the run was done. I brought my DemerBox DB2 Speaker with me, handed it to the brand rep, and let her figure everything out as I ran. Connecting the DemerBox DB2 Speaker to your phone and playing music is very easy and intuitive. I came back from my run and we had music playing as we inhaled our post-run treats. As an added bonus, we had a surprise front blow through. Crazy winds and rain sent many things aloft and scattered around the parking lot. The DemerBox DB2 Speaker was heavy enough to stay anchored and not miss a beat. But if it did tumble, I know it would be fine thanks to the super tough Pelican Case shell.
I’ve also enjoyed using the DemerBox DB2 Speaker on long Zwift rides in my basement. My basement set up doesn’t have a ton of tablespace next to my bike. It’s just enough for a tablet, a water bottle, and snacks. Getting a Bluetooth speaker set up where it’s both not in the way AND in a spot where I can hear it over the whirring of my bike has been a challenge. I usually awkwardly balance the speaker on my aerobars and hope that it stays put for my ride. The DemerBox DB2 Speaker is loud enough where I can put it on a flat surface across the room and have zero issues hearing the music over the sound of my bike. The Bluetooth connection is plenty strong and I’ve found it to be very responsive when changing music stations or adjusting the volume.
What I am most looking forward to is teaching yoga outside with the DemerBox DB2 Speaker. While I haven’t been able to test this out yet (testing was done over Colorado winter), I am excited about the bonus features that come with the speaker. Namely the waterproof storage inside the Pelican Case. I have had MANY summer yoga sessions interrupted by rain, and all of my things (journal, keys, wallet, speaker) get absolutely soaked on my mad dash to my vehicle. The DemerBox DB2 Speaker Pelican Case opens with 2 latches and has just enough space for my journal, keys and wallet), making for a quick and easy space to keep my things dry.

I am also looking forward to van camping trips, knowing I have 40 hours of play time before the speaker runs out of juice. I may also bring it with me to Ragnar Zion (a 36 hour relay trail race) if I have luggage space for it. Basically, the DemerBox DB2 Speaker is coming along on most of my adventures this summer because it’s tough, is plenty loud, and has a long battery life.
My only quibble about the DemerBox DB2 Speaker is when you open it. Because the Pelican Case lid is loaded with speaker components, the Pelican Box doesn’t lay like it’s unspeaker-ladened version. The DemerBox is VERY lid-heavy, which means when you open the case like a suitcase, the case tips over due to the weight of the speakers. A counterweight, located at the bottom of the box’s empty cavity might be a nice improvement. This doesn’t affect the functionality of the box as a set of speakers, but is enough where I find that I get irritated with the open box pitching over every time I open it.
Closing Thoughts
DemerBox is available as both a single and double speaker. Either option is available in a wide variety of stock colors. There’s also a “build your own” option that allows you to mix and match speaker and case colors.
