I do a wide variety of activities: running, hiking, road cycling, mountain biking, and strength training.  I have a pretty solid variety of different shoes to go along with all of these activities.

Techniques Ultra Light Cushion No Show Sock

I like the Techniques Ultra Light Cushion No Show Sock best for weight lifting or for wearing with casual shoes. They are true no-show socks – but they also don’t move.  I’ve worn them with my zero drop weight lifting shoes nearly multiple times and the socks stay put, even when I’m doing more active things like burpees, jumps or lunges.

They’re the lightest of the FITS line and have been a great sock to wear in the summer with casual shoes.  My feet don’t feel sweaty on walks or in the gym and the no show height means that I can wear them with nearly any shoe/pant combination.

Original Light Cushion Low and Quarter Sock

For most of my running, I prefer a light cushion.  The Original Light Cushion option has a noticeable but not overwhelming amount of padding in the heel and the ball of the foot + toe area.

I like the Low option for road running and for gym sessions. The low sock is just a smidge higher than the No Show sock.  Sometimes, lower socks migrate on my runs (depending on the shoes) or the sock – shoe contact point can feel bunched and uncomfortable.

The Quarter sock is a bit taller than the low sock, hitting me about 1/2-inch above my ankle bone. I’ve been wearing these socks for road and trail runs, as well as hiking and gravel cycling. This sock height is great for when you want a little ankle protection while having the feeling of a no show sock.

I’ve been gear testing a wide variety of running shoes and the Original Light Cushion Low sock feels good while staying in place. The cuffs at the ankle are nicely padded while not feeling constrictive.  The cushion feels similar to other light to medium weight cushioned socks.  And I haven’t had a single blister or hot spot!

Micro Light Performance Trail – Quarter

The Micro Light Performance Trail – Quarter socks are the more “business” sock of the ones that I asked for.  The cuff hits me at approximately 2-inches above the ankle bone. The cuff fabric is slightly thicker and compressive, to help keep rocks and debris out.  The cuff is also solid black, which prevents the socks from looking “dirty” during trail runs or rides.

The padding of the Micro Light Performance Trail – Quarter socks is slightly thinner than the Original Light Cushion socks, but only slightly.

I’ve worn these socks on gravel and MTB rides, as well as hikes and trail runs.  These socks are probably my preferred sock of the bunch for gravel or MTB riding.  The height of the cuff protects my ankle, while the lighter cushion volume fit best in my tight fitting cycling shoes.

The Micro Light Performance Trail – Quarter socks do fit taller than the Original Light Cushion Quarter sock, despite being the same descriptive height.  I prefer the taller sock line for trail running and mountain biking, and this height feels appropriate for the intended uses for this sock.

Closing Thoughts

I have long but skinny feet, and often I have a hard time with socks that move or bunch as I’m running, lifting, or cycling.  FITS Athletic Merino Socks, thanks to innovative construction, do exactly as their name implies.  They FIT.  In my six weeks of putting the FITS Athletic Merino Socks through their paces, I haven’t had to do much thinking about them, which is actually a compliment. I really appreciate well made socks that perform so well that you don’t notice them, which means I can keep my attention on running or cycling.

FITS socks are made in the USA.  They offer a wide variety of socks for any activity in a range of colors and sizes.

Somewhere along her triathlon journey, she picked up deep love of cycling. Cycling encouraged her to see landscapes in a new way, learn new skills and to develop self reliance; now she often goes and does Type 2 rides just to see if she can do it.  She’s got all the bikes: gravel, mountain, fat bike, time trial and road.
She is even known to combine her love of camping and cycling and go off on solo 24 hour overnight bikepacking trips in the mountains of Colorado. In addition to bikes, she teaches yoga, lifts weights, skis, SUPs and has recently purchased a campervan.

Fall and winter 2025 will bring Erin to the “Adventure Side”, with many camping, vanlife, bikepacking, and mountain bike rides. Once the snow flies, she can be find resort skiing, fat biking, and triathlon training (inside and outside).
2026 will bring a National Championship Cross Tri race, a National Championship Road Sprint and Olympic Distance race, and hopefully a chance to represent Team USA once again in 2027 in Edmonton, Canada. She’ll also save lots of room for adventure time with her friends and husband.
When not adventuring, she can be found on a sunny patio somewhere, drinking beers with her husband.
