Detailed Review
Updated for the 7th iteration, Hoka has improved the upper to be more breathable, but otherwise, has largely kept the shoe similar to the Mach 6 edition.
I didn’t have the Mach 6, so I’m unable to provide a direct comparison of the Mach 7 to its predecessor. I am however, a long-time Hoka user, typically using the Bondi or Skyflow for my training runs.

I’ve been wearing the Hoka Mach 7 for my weekly pavement lunch run for the past month, and they’ve quickly risen to the top of my favorite shoe to wear for these kinds of runs.
My first impression was how light they felt, along with how responsive they are. The shoes almost feel like they’re doing the driving and you’re along for the ride.
The super-critical foam midsole has a little cushion to them, just enough to make it feel like you’re wearing Hokas, but they are definitely more firm than my Bondis or Skyflows. But true to Hoka form, the Mach 7s are just as comfortable to run in as my Bondis or Skyflows. The firmness translates into snappiness or responsiveness, which I really enjoy.
The revamped outsole is also great. The trail I run on is concrete and it often has a fine layer of grit over it in places. The sticky rubber that comprises the outsole is fantastic. There really isn’t any tread or lugs to speak of, just well placed grippy rubber. I haven’t had a slip or a skiff while running in the Mach 7s.

The fit of the upper is a little more narrow than my Bondis or Skyflows. I wear a women’s size 9 in Hoka and I also have to wear a special insole to address some foot issues. I’ve found that, while a little more narrow in the toe box, the Mach 7s are still plenty roomy and comfortable for me. The shoes also work well with my favorite low-cut running sock, with zero friction spots.

All of the contact points around the Hoka Mach 7 are comfortable. The heel cup easily accommodates my narrow heel, feeling comfortable with minimal movement as I run. The tongue is a softer material and doesn’t poke or rub weirdly on bare skin.
The Hoka Mach 7s are a great daily trainer, but they’re also really versatile at an affordable price point of $145. They’re snappy enough for speed work or even race efforts but plenty comfortable for slower training runs or even endurance running races. For someone wanting one shoe to do a wide range of things (training to racing), the Hoka Mach 7 could be their quiver killer shoe that meets all of their needs.
Closing Thoughts
Out of all the run shoes in my closet, the Hoka Mach 7s have quickly become a favorite for my weekday pavement run, due to how light and fun they feel underfoot.
The Hoka Mach 7 shoe is available in both men’s and women’s sizing, regular and wide.
