Julbo Ultimate Sunglasses with Photochromic Lens: My new go-to for outdoor sports with changing conditions

The new Julbo Ultimate Sunglasses with REACTIV 1-3 high contrast photochromic lenses is my new preference when doing outdoor activity, especially in changing light conditions. Julbo calls these the “Ultimate” for a reason!

This eyewear just looks great at any speed! It is a modern design that I’m honestly comfortable wearing while driving, bopping around town or when pushing myself on the bike or nordic skis. Beyond looks, Julbo has gone out of there way to make the fit customizable so you barely feel them on your face.

Fit:

  • The Ultimate comes with CustomFIT temples that are pliable to fit around your head and hold the shape you mold them in to ensure comfort every time they’re worn. Additionally, the soft material on the temples ensures that I won’t get hot-spots or headaches when I’m wearing these during hours of exercise. The glasses fit snugly enough to not worry they will fall off mountain biking, skiing or running. They are designed to “spring” to an either fully folded or fully open position to help ensure I don’t poke myself in the eyes when I’m trying to put these on one-handed!

  • The soft 3D Nose pads are shapeable to fit any schnoz out there. Again, this ensures a custom, comfortable fit that ensures I’m not thinking about sore contact points or big red ovals on my nose after I take these off. There is also some nice venting built in around the nose piece.

Lens:

  • The lens is a very nice wraparound shape. While I can sense the outside and bottom edges of the lens peripherally, this will block bright sunlight and glare from directly impacting your vision across any normal range of view. This lens is about as panoramic as you can get.

  • This lens is made of “Trivex” which is a new material for glasses that offers superior clarity and less distortion that polycarbonate lenses. The lenses on the product I tested were the REACTIV RED/ Multilayer Blue photochromic lenses. They adapt very rapidly to changing light conditions. Their light transmission varies between 13% and 72% of the actual brightness of the light you’re in, which is a very wide range.

In conclusion, Julbo knocks it out of the park with these light, great-fitting sunglasses that allow me to ski or ride my bike confidently in changing lighting conditions. From Nordic skiing on a bluebird day that is super bright outside, to mountain biking through a forest late afternoon on a cloudy day, I know I can confidently wear these and be able to see the terrain without compromising my ability to see or protect my eyes. If you enjoy outdoor sports in changing lighting conditions, consider picking up a pair of Julbo Ultimate’s with REACTIV lenses!
