Fit and Function

The KÜHL Haven™ Pant has a straightleg fit with a bootcut hemline.  Translation: these pants have an athletic fit.

I am a women’s medium on the KÜHL size guide and found that these pants are true to size.  The inseam, however, is LONG.  It is so long that I question who these pants were made for.  I’m 5’4″ but I have a 31″ inseam.  These pants are crazy long, extending underfoot when left in straight-leg mode.  If I cinch the elastic cord, the hemline does stay at a reasonable length, however, the bottom of the pants does tend to pool out and feel a bit like harem pants.  I really do love everything about these pants, but if I’m going to keep them long term, I’m going to have to hem them.  Getting them altered likely means ditching the hemline elastic cord feature (which I really like) or spending extra money to keep that feature.

Other areas of fit are well done.  The pants have plenty of room for muscley legs without feeling tight or restrictive, but also not looking too baggy. These are definitely in the Goldilocks “just right” fit category for women who have muscle.

The Tencel ripstop fabric is on the more durable and thicker scale, compared to some similar purposed pants that I have in my closet.  I like the weight of the fabric: it doesn’t feel like I’ll snag or tear it the first time I sit down on a rock or kneel to tie my shoe.  The durability has also been evident during my testing, with the pants looking as good as new.

The pockets of the KÜHL Haven™ Pant are well designed. The side hand pockets are plenty big and include a zipper for security.  The two rear pockets are also a good size – it almost fits my phone + giant case.  Both of these pockets also zip closed.  My favorite pocket is the side cargo pocket.  It’s a bit more stealthy and tailored than other cargo pockets.  This pocket sits high on the upper back thigh.  Placing items into this pocket feels natural and struggle-free.  It’s drop in design make it super easy to insert and retrieve my phone.

The overall look of the KÜHL Haven™ Pant is also on the nicer, less “cargo” pant side.  The waistband is a thicker band and the elastic waist looks stylish.  The thicker fabric lends the pants to appear more like work pants than hiking pants, and I can get away with wearing these to work or a field project.

The fabric of the KÜHL Haven™ Pant is very comfortable.  It has a softer feel to it, much nicer than typical ripstop fabric. The pants offer a full range of movement and the interior seams are comfortable on long hikes.

In summary, these pants would be perfect if the inseam was shorter.

Closing Thoughts

The KÜHL Haven™ line is available in several items: jogger pants, 7″ shorts, 3.5″ shorts, a skort, and pants. Each option is available in sizes ranging from XS to XL and in 5-6 colorways, depending on the item.
