Fit and Function

The Marmot Women’s Trailway UPF 40 Hiking Pant comes in numerical sizing, which I admit, is always a challenge for me.  According to the Marmot size guide, I am a women’s size 8.  I found these hiking pants to fit a bit small and really should have gone up to a size 10 for a looser fit that matches the website model.  The fit of the pant is on the slender side, so it could also be that my muscles skewed the fit for me.  Still, the pants have a LOT of stretch to them, so while they’re pretty form fitting, they still move very well.

The Marmot Women’s Trailway UPF 40 Hiking Pant has two large front hip drop in pockets that are plenty big for your hands or a phone.  There’s a top zip pocket on the left leg.  I found this pocket to not be large enough to fit my phone (that has a decently sized case).  Similar with the back zip pocket, there’s not quite enough depth to store my phone.  Still, these pockets are nice and do offer a secure spot to store your ID, money, a key, or snacks.

The fabric of the Marmot Women’s Trailway UPF 40 Hiking Pant is very lightweight and very stretchy. With the UPF 50+ rating, these make for a great summer pant, even in the heat, for those who prefer to be covered up when hiking or enjoying outside time.

I also like the added feature of the ankle hem cinch cord, allowing the user to style the pants a bit differently, or as an aid in holding the bottom hem higher for creek crossings.

The fabric of the Marmot Women’s Trailway UPF 40 Hiking Pant is also pretty tough. It doesn’t pick up dirt or debris if you kneel or sit on the ground.  They’ve also resisted any signs of wear from scrambling around rocks or daily living.

These pants are styled so that they can easily move from the trail to more urban life, as the side cargo pocket it subtle and the fit doesn’t scream “hiking”.  These can easily be appropriate for less adventure-y situations where comfort is important.

Closing Thoughts

The Marmot Women’s Trailway UPF 40 Hiking Pant is a lightweight option with sun protection, for those who prefer to wear pants when out enjoying the outside.  The fit is on the athletic side, so keep that in mind when it comes to sizing and how you like pants to fit.

The Marmot Women’s Trailway UPF 40 Hiking Pant is available in sizes ranging from 0 to 16 and in three colorways (dark steel, olive grove or desert khaki).
