Fit and Function

I am a women’s medium on the Minus 33 size guide and found that the Woolverino Micro 1/4 Zip Merino Sun Hoodie fits true to size.  There is a slight amount of room beneath the hoodie for layering, but it’s not loose or baggy.

The Minus 33 Woolverino Micro 1/4 Zip Merino Sun Hoodie’s features are fairly standard for a hoodie.  Of note, there’s a small zipper chest pocket.  The pocket isn’t big enough for a phone, but it made a nice and secure spot to place my sunglasses to prevent me from losing them of stepping on them.’

I have been wearing the Minus 33 Woolverino Micro 1/4 Zip Merino Sun Hoodie during camping weekends in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. My main test of the hoodie was on a solo overnight bikepacking trip.  I was looking for a layer that would serve as both my main shirt for the ride to my campsite as well as double as a shirt for wearing around camp and for sleeping.

The seams on the Minus 33 Woolverino Micro 1/4 Zip Merino Sun Hoodie are well done.  They’re flatlock seams and are placed well, so they don’t rub or chafe or interfere with packs.

The knit fabric of the Minus 33 Woolverino Micro 1/4 Zip Merino Sun Hoodie is on the light side.  My hoodie is the Mint colorway and is definitely a bit see-through.  The UPF 20 rating did provide enough sun protection where I didn’t get sunburned, even with 2 hours on my bike in direct sun.

I was pleased with how breathable and how quickly the Minus 33 Woolverino Micro 1/4 Zip Merino Sun Hoodie dried.  I wear a hydration pack when I ride, so my backside gets pretty sweaty.  Once at camp, by the time I had my bike unpacked and my tent set up, the hoodie was completely dry.

Thanks to the Merino wool, the hoodie remained odor free, even after 2 hours of pedaling.  I felt fine wearing the hoodie around camp and to sleep in, never once feeling grungy.

The Minus 33 Woolverino Micro 1/4 Zip Merino Sun Hoodie fabric does seem to be pretty durable, despite it’s light weight.  Some shirts don’t hold up well against hydration packs.  This hoodie didn’t show any signs or wear (pilling or rubbing).  The only sign of use after my 2 days of wearing it was a sweat stain that easily came out in the wash.

Happily, the Minus 33 Woolverino Micro 1/4 Zip Merino Sun Hoodie is machine washable, making it easy to care for.

I also used the Minus 33 Woolverino Micro 1/4 Zip Merino Sun Hoodie as a baselayer overnight as temperatures dropped.  The fitted hood stayed in place and I appreciated the zipper garage, which allowed me to fully zip up the hood and not have a zipper irritating my neck or chin. The thumbholes are well placed and the shirt layered well under my zip-up fleece hoodie.
