Outdoor Research Women’s Freewheel Long Sleeve MTB Jersey
Review by Kate Agathon
Outdoor Research continues to knock it out of the mountain biking apparel ballpark with the Women’s Freewheel Long Sleeve MTB Jersey.
This long sleeve shirt is perfect in so many ways: fit, weight, comfort, technology, and performance. It will easily be my favorite shirt this season. The best way to describe it? Just right.
Let’s dive in.
The first thing I noticed about the Outdoor Research Women’s Freewheel Long Sleeve MTB Jersey is its cut.
Unlike other long sleeve mountain bike jerseys that I’ve tried in the past, I was delighted to discover that it was not too wide and not too tight. Even though it isn’t offered in a petite version, the overall cut was fine.
Secondly, the weight was perfect. Constructed from spandex and recycled polyester, the jersey was neither too thin nor too heavy and is the perfect weight for spring mountain biking.
I couldn’t believe how soft the fabric felt against my skin. It almost felt too nice to wear mountain biking. So comfortable!

Performance and Technology
During my last visit to the dermatologist, he addressed my concerns about skin cancer and sun damage.
He advised me to not only keep my arms covered, but to find sun-protective clothing that would help block harmful UV rays and reduce sun damage to my skin when I ride this season.
Therefore, I was happy to discover that the Freewheel collection had those sun blocking properties he recommended so that I could feel a bit safer riding all day long.
Sun blocking properties? Check. The Women’s Freewheel Long Sleeve MTB Jersey has UPF 30+ sun protection.
What about wicking and quick dry technology? No one likes getting sweaty during a tough climb and staying uncomfortably wet the rest of the day. Thankfully, Outdoor Research thought of that too.

Finally, the jersey has temperature-controlling technology that I found extremely useful when I recently wore the jersey mountain biking in Salida.
The day started out sunny and gradually changed to cool, overcast, and windy.
Thanks to the technology from the jersey’s self-regulating Thermo-Regulating ActiveTemp™ Treatment, I stayed comfortable all day long, despite the changing conditions.
Throughout the day, my temperature remained mostly stable. I didn’t overheat or get cold thanks to the ActiveTemp™ adjusting my microclimate.
In past situations, I would have worn a jacket and been constantly removing it and putting it back on. ActiveTemp™ on this highly breathable and stretchy jersey eliminated the need to have a jacket.

Overall Thoughts
I absolutely love the Outdoor Research Women’s Freewheel Long Sleeve MTB Jersey for its overall design including: fit, construction, technology, comfort.
Other thoughtful details include:
- Integrated microfiber wipe along the hemline to clean eyewear.
- Contoured hem with a drop tail for extra coverage.
- Interior center back locker loop.
- Seamless shoulders to reduce chafing.
- Discrete logo placement.
Available in 3 colors (Black, Galactic, and Spice/Zest) and six sizes (XS to XXL), the Outdoor Research Women’s Freewheel Long Sleeve MTB Jersey also comes with Outdoor Research’s Infinite Guarantee®, so you know your gear is guaranteed to perform throughout the lifetime of the product.
