VELOUS Oceanside Flip

Review by Erin Trail

The VELOUS Oceanside Flip gives casual flip-flop vibes while offering support and cushioning underfoot.

I have tricky feet.  I have a torn plantar plate, which makes wearing most flip flops a challenge, because I need a more supportive shoe.  I’m also an endurance athlete and there’s not much better than putting on a pair of comfortable flip flops after a long run or bike ride.

In warmer months, I’m pretty much always in sandals.  Inside the house, running errands, hanging out.  I have a recovery flip flop that I love how they fit and feel, but they also turn into dangerous slip-n-slides when they’re wet.  They also have super soft soles and pick up goat-heads or thorns easily, making them a less-than-ideal outdoor sandal choice.

The VELOUS Oceanside Flip has kept the recovery vibes while giving it a more robust platform to make it more durable.

The footbed of the VELOUS Oceanside Flip is molded with a VERY fitted heel cup.  This helps to keep your foot more stable while wearing it, but it also has sizing implications.  I typically wear a women’s size 8 in sandals (9 in running shoes).  VELOUS recommends sizing UP to accommodate the heel cup.  I ordered a M7 / W9 sandal and found the fit to be perfect.

The foot strap of the VELOUS Oceanside Flip is a heavier mesh strap.  I did notice that the strap, especially between my toes, felt a little stiff for the first few wears, but quicky broke in and became comfortable.

The footbed of the VELOUS Oceanside Flip is made from a triple-density cushion (Tri-Motion™ Technology) and is molded with arch support and a heel cup. The footbed feels supportive but not overly cushioned, so there’s no feeling like you’re walking on marshmallows.  The footbed is also lightly textured, which keeps the footbed from becoming slick when it gets wet.

The sole of the VELOUS Oceanside Flip is also lightly textured for traction.  The outsole is a fairly firm (but not stiff) material, that seems to resist attracting pokey things like goat-heads, and offers decent traction on a variety of surfaces.

Finally, the VELOUS Oceanside Flip is approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association.  This Seal of Acceptance demonstrated that the recovery sandal promotes healing by keeping feet in a supportive and relaxed position.

The VELOUS Oceanside Flip is available in unisex whole sizes, ranging from M4 / W6 to M15 /W14 and can be found in six different colorways.
