Breathable Backcountry Pants – Flylow IQ NeoShell Pant

Flylow IQ pant review

Flylow knows how to make a great ski and snowboard garment. They are usually burly fabric with very reinforced cuffs (for us backcountry travelers) but they are also often heavier than some other pants on the market. Not that big of a deal, but some of us are all about lightweight AND protection. Enter the Flylow IQ NeoShell Pant. This is a bare-bones, lightweight pant made for backcountry skiing and splitboarding.

The fabric is very lightweight and incorporates Polartec NeoShell as the waterproof breathable membrane. We are big fans of NeoShell (as you can see from many other reviews). These ski pants exhibit many of the qualities that desire. They are not crinkly (like many Gore-Tex offerings) they are pliable (very helpful on the skin track) and they breathe like a champ. We have used them on several tours and have yet to open the inner thigh vents.

The pants have 2 large drop pockets on the front, one smaller pocket on the right front (perfect for beacon) and one rear pocket. We were able to fit leather gloves, snacks and chap stick in one front pocket, beanie and balaclava in other front pocket and mittens in the back pocket.

The sizing is spot on. Tester is 6’1” 200lb 33” waist and the Large fit the bill. Plus, they is an exterior velcro adjustable waist – for you tweeners. Comes in just 2 colors – grey and blue. THE cuffs are reinforced 500D Cordura, so they can take on your ski and splitboard edges. All in all a great deal for the MSRP $375.
