I have a small face and it’s difficult for me to find sports eyewear that stays in place. Therefore, I was thrilled to try KOO Open Cube sports eyewear.

Designed and crafted in Italy by KASK helmets, KOO sports eyewear was founded in 2016 and has been worn by UCI world tour cycling teams such as Trek Segafredo.

My interest in the KOO Open Cube was because of its features that offer a more customized fit: adjustable folding nosepiece, and micometrical arms adjustment. While I discovered that I didn’t need to use the arms adjustment, I found the adjustable folding nosepiece useful since I am Asian and don’t have much of a nose bridge.

The KOO Open Cube sports eyewear arrived in a large zippered case with two lenses (smoke mirror lens and a spare clear lens) and a travel bag. They have a unique folding pivot that took a moment to get used to, but it keeps the glasses stored safely.

I first wore them while nordic skiing during a sunny bluebird spring day in Breckenridge.

The first thing I noticed was the fit. They were incredibly snug and fit my face perfectly. They stayed in place when I turned my face side to side.

The thick ear pieces initially concerned me because I thought the hard plastic would hurt the tops of my ears or put pressure along my head as so many other sports glasses have done. Despite my skepticism, the plastic wasn’t weighty, and I didn’t have a headache after an afternoon of skiing.

The lenses provided adequate protection, but I would have liked them more if they had been polarized; especially to see color and detail in sharper clarity. As the day got warmer, I was thankful for the ventilation provided by the KOO Open Cube.

The next time I tried them was an overcast day with snow flurries. I replaced the smoke mirror lens with the clear lens, because the light was so flat. Clear lenses are nice because sometimes even photochromic lenses are too dark in changing conditions with bad light.

Although no instructions were provided on how to swap out the lenses, it was fairly intuitive and it took only a couple of minutes.

The clear lens provided the exact coverage I needed when it began to snow and protected my eyes from the elements. I know the clear lens will be useful during cycling season to keep rain and bugs away from my eyes.

From a style perspective, they look sleek and aero. From a fit perspective, they are comfortable and I can wear them for extended periods of time without getting a headache.

KOO Open Cube are truly multi-sport eyewear, and  I look forward to wearing the KOO Open Cubes for road biking once mud season ends. I absolutely recommend them for people with small faces who have trouble finding sports eyewear that fits well.
