ThirtyTwo made several improvements on the Jeremy Jones MTB snowboard boot since bringing them to the table in 2015. They addressed the issue some users were having with the BOA cable breaking. Now they use Spectra cable in the new BOA system. Nice upgrade and the Spectra cable is very pliable. The BOA is now slimmer (so it won’t catch on objects) and wider (making it easier to grip). They did not stop there with the improvements though. They designed these to be the go-to splitboard boot!

We have been using the heck out of the ThirtyTwo Jones MTB boots last season(2015-2016) and have the review up on that as well. This year we have several days on the improved model and are really impressed. Besides the revamped BOA system, the boot sole feels a bit softer, in a good way. Could be the new Vibram Combination Evolution Foam outsole that is semi-auto crampon compatible. The new sole and heel welt look more pronounced over last year. The Cordura fabric lace cover material stays the same but now wraps around the very top pf the laces for an even more secure closure.

Walk mode is still super handy and allows 30% (I misspoke in the video review, saying that it was 35% – but heck, cut me some slack, we were enjoying some pow!) articulation for very efficient touring. Combine the walk mode with your Spark or Karakoram binding’s forward lean adjustment in tour mode and you have a smooth ascent! If you have never experienced a splitboard specific boot with adjustable articulation like this, then you don’t know what your missing. Others try to do it but miss the mark a bit. Burton Tourist is not quite as articulated and you can not adjust it and the Deeluxe are adjustable but not quite as articulated….. Both are good boots though.

These are also the stiffest boots we have ever tested. Last year we took 3 days to break them into a point that we felt comfortable. This year they seem a little (like very little) bit softer and we are grateful for that. No other boot comes close to the stiffness. We have used them back to back with Ride Insano, Burton Tourist, Deeluxe XV and even Fitwell – these are still the stiffest. You will get used to it and learn to appreciate it.

Over the last 2 seasons of using the ThirtyTwo boots, I can say that they are the go-to boot for splitboard missions. We see more users on these than any other splitboard boot, more users report that they love them and we can see why. With the improvements over last years boot, these are the most solid splitboard boot we have tested. We don’t use them on every tour, but on long days and any trip that might require scrambling, and crampons – these are the top choice. MSRP $599
