Patagonia DAS Light Hoody – Excellent Warmth and Great Performance
The new Patagonia DAS Light Hoody $329 is one of my favorite jackets of this season. It is warmer than the Micro Puff, yet light enough to find its way on most trips. Featuring 10D Pertex Quantum Pro with a PU and DWR coating to keep the elements out.
Patagonia DAS Light Hoody Review
I have been reviewing a lot of puffy jackets the last few years and have a few favorites, for various conditions. Well, that all changed when the Patagonia DAS Light Hoody showed up 🙂 It features the same amount (65 grams) of synthetic insulation (PlumaFill) as the Patagonia Micro Puff $299 yet the DAS Light is warmer. You can read and view the review on the Micro Puff here.

The DAS Light also features a 10D material, much like the Micro Puff, but the material is treated with two types of weatherproofing – a PU coating as well as a DWR. Perhaps this is why it feels warmer than the Micro Puff? The Pertex material does have a little more “crinkle” sound to it, but it is not that noticeable.

What I love about the DAS Light Hoody
I really appreciate that the DAS Light is a highly functional puffy. There are two sizeable zippers on the jacket allowing use for climbing as well as with thick gloves on. I am not a fan of tiny zippers, although I do respect when companies try to save weight by using them. All the zippers on the DAS Light are legit and easy to use.

Patagonia DAS Light Hoody stuffed into pocket
The hand pockets are zippered and sizeable. You can stuff the entire jacket in one of the hand pockets too. Though, I usually don’t do that. The Napoleon pockets are very large and can easily fit your smartphone or a sandwich. Mmmm, sandwich.
Hood is one of the best in this style of a jacket! You can actually adjust the sizing, unlike many others in this style of jacket. The neck and face coverage is excellent. There is even an elastic band that does a great job of sealing over a helmet or hat.
The only bummer is there are no internal drop pockets. If you have seen any of the other reviews I have done on jackets, you will know how much I appreciate drop pockets LOL. Not sure why Patagonia opted to forgo drop pockets on this jacket. Perhaps they will have them in future versions?
DAS Light is actually light!
I did a review and video on the DAS Parka and really like that jacket. But, it is not very light, as it is also twice as insulated as the DAS Light. Below is the video on the DAS Parka
The DAS Light comes in at a little over 12 ounces for a size XL. That is really awesome considering how warm it is and well it protects against the elements. I have used the jacket in snow and been dry. I have not tried it in rain (as we do not usually get rain in the winter LOL) so I can not speak on how waterproof the PU coating is. But, for wind and snow, it is good to go!
Who is the Patagonia DAS Light Hoody good for?
This is a great jacket for any activity where you want a midweight puffy with great weather protection. It is a step up in wind and snow protection over other puffies that have just a DWR coating. The adjustable hood is very nice and will be appreciated by climbers and others who are sick of minimalist hoods on UL puffies. This jacket truly has impressed me and I find myself wearing it more than others, as it just works well and looks good!
