Patagonia Triolet Pants pants are tour-ready
Built for snowy, cold conditions, these fully waterproof shells can withstand brutal environments to keep you comfortable. After touring in them I really liked their protection from the climate but was a little disappointed with the mobility, or lack thereof.
As a backcountry telemark skier, I need a wide range of motion to accommodate a tele lunge and long strides for skinning. I found the pants a bit restricting for this. I originally had the small but they wouldn’t stay up so I went down to an extra small. I wish the pants had the waist of the XS but the leg/butt room of a small. I wasn’t so restricted that I couldn’t move, but they were a little tighter than I like in ski pants.

I am, however, really impressed with the materials and the thought put into the design. These shells weigh 20.3 oz (1.2 lbs), are built with 75-denier 100% recycled polyester plain-weave GORE-TEX fabric and boast a DWR finish. This trifecta guarantees safety even from the harshest of weather. But these shells don’t just keep you safe, they are Fair Trade Certified and the shell fabric is bluesign certified making them safe for the planet too.

They have an inner gaiter that will keep the snow out of your boots on the powder days and posthole approaches. This gaiter has a hook and loop system to attach to your laces, gripper elastic and a velcro/snap closure. The double outer cuff is incredibly durable with a scuff guard to keep the holes at bay.
The full side zippers make getting in and out easy. This is a great feature to have if you need to slip on more layers underneath or already have your crampons on. The bottom of the zipper, at the cuff, has a snap closure and the top of the zipper has a snap on the outside and velcro on the inside of the waist.
This velcro can be used to tailor the waist to fit you better. If they still aren’t fitting right you can put a belt through the wide belt loops. The pants feature two front pockets with DWR coated zippers. These pants also include a RECCO tab on the leg.
Growing up snowboarding and hiking in the bitter cold winters and humid summers of northern Vermont, Eliza learned how to beat up gear and quickly became infatuated with new technologies.
