Patagonia Peak Mission Gloves
Lightweight gloves with pull-over wind-proof mitten shells

The Patagonia Peak Mission Gloves $79 are a great little running glove! I first saw this concept in skimo gloves, and I’m glad to have a pair in a light running weight. The nylon windproof and water-resistant mitten shells are paper-thin, but add a surprising amount of warmth, especially if it’s windy out. The shells stow easily in slim pockets on top of the wrist; I can usually do it mid-stride once my hands have warmed up.

These gloves are ideal for long trail runs that emerge on windy ridgetops and dip into sheltered valleys, where I can adapt in a few seconds to changing conditions without even stopping. Weighing only 2 oz, they are a no-brainer to bring along in my running vest on most runs since November. The fabric is soft and comfortable, and it’s nice that the index finger is touch-screen compatible.

The only caveat I’d say about these gloves is that they are not very warm — they feel pike a lightweight liner. Patagonia markets them for “hiking/ running/ casual wear” but most people probably couldn’t use them for anything other than running at temps below 35. I can wear them while running in single digits, but I have to keep moving.
That said, most of the winter running I do in Colorado is in temperatures between 10 and 40, so these gloves are pretty ideal for me. However, I know some rugged folks in the upper midwest and northern rockies who definitely run in colder temps. It would be cool to see Patagonia release a mid-weight glove with a pull-over wind mitten, for hikers and truly frigid temps.
