Earth Day Every Day with The North Face Thermoball ECO Hoodie

Earth Day Every Day with The North Face Thermoball ECO Hoodie
Lower your carbon footprint and keep warm with The North Face Thermoball ECO Hoodie (MSRP $220).
For Winter 2018-19, The North Face reintroduces their best selling synthetic insulation Thermoball collection with ThermoBall ECO– a collection made exclusively from repurposed materials.
600 Fill Down Equivalent
As stylish and as warm (the equivalent of a 600 fill down puffy) as its Thermoball predecessor and down hoodie counterpart, the Thermoball ECO Hoodie has one important distinction- it is constructed entirely from recycled bottles that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.
Designed for hiking, I have worn the Thermoball ECO Hoodie in the mountains and around town. Its warmth and compressibility (it stows in a hand pocket) make it a great choice to take on outdoor adventures when adverse weather can appear out of nowhere.
Warm and Compressible for Packability
Yesterday, I opted to wear the Thermoball ECO Hoodie on a snowshoe hike in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. For a hike that began with temperatures at -7 and ended in the high 30s, the Thermoball ECO Hoodie was a perfect choice.
Despite the freezing temperatures, I was fine wearing just a base layer and vest for insulation with the Thermoball ECO Hoodie on top. I wasn’t overly warm or cold- just comfortable.
Features of the Thermoball ECO Hoodie
I especially appreciated the details such as an attached hood with partial elastic binding with cinch cord hem (I kept it up for the first half of the hike) and internal, elastic-bound cuffs that kept elements out and warmth in.
On the return hike, I packed the Thermoball ECO Hoodie down and stowed it in my pack. It took up no storage space at all- not something I could have said with a softshell jacket that I normally would have worn.
Two things to note. Because of its slim fit design, consider purchasing a size larger than your normal size. Secondly, it lacks an internal pocket. An internal chest pocket would be a welcome improvement in next generation Thermoball ECO hoodies to keep valuables close.
With the introduction of the Thermoball ECO collection, The North Face takes another crucial step in eliminating plastic pollution and using technology to create eco-friendly goods.
This is the first piece of recycled goods technical gear I have owned. I am impressed with the quality of the Thermoball ECO hoodie in terms of warmth, style and price point and hope that The North Face expands its Thermoball ECO line.

Happy Trails
